Now it seems  that Anna has finally listened to her friend Kanye's words and Kim has made her long awaited Vogue cover appearance, of course with Kanye alongside her. Famed photographer Annie Leibovitz has taken the pictures with the cover headline reading, ‘KIM & KANYE: Their fashionable life and surreal times’, underneath is the hashtag #WORLDSMOSTTALKEDABOUTCOUPLE. There’s no doubt that Kim and Kanye are one of the world’s most talked about couples and the use of a hashtag is more than a subtle nod to the modern times that Kimye’s fame has grown with. With social media always rising Vogue were, sooner or later, going to have to take proper notice of the very famous couple. But is fame enough to garner a Vogue cover? Not everyone thinks so.

Social media has been awash with people criticising the high profile couple’s appearance in the magazine's sacred pages. Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar tweeted ‘well......I guess I'm cancelling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me???" - apparently in reference to the cover. No one it seems is going to ruin Kim’s joy, however as she went on twitter to say ‘this is such a dream come true!!! Thank you @VogueMagazine for this cover! O M GGGGGG!!! I can't even breath (sic)!’ on Friday. In her editor’s letter in the upcoming issue Wintour did all she could to rubbish rumours of a feud saying "you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue’s cover. He did nothing of the sort. The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true."

Of course the cover, like the couple, has already lent itself to parody. First, actor James Franco, who had previously lampooned Kanye’s ‘Bound 2’ video with pal Seth Rogen, photoshopped him and Rogen’s heads onto the cover. It wasn't long before this alternative cover started appearing everywhere. Then the Muppets got in on the joke, tweeting a picture of Kermit and Miss Piggy in place of Kimye with the caption ‘"Vague" brings you Kermiggy, the #UniversesMostTalkedAboutCouple’.

Of course backlash against Kimye’s Vogue cover was unavoidable, but when is it that a Vogue cover pleases everybody? The problem is that although Vogue may be the bastion of high fashion, it’s also a magazine that needs to stay current and reflect changes in society. So why not feature the #WORLDSMOSTTALKEDABOUTCOUPLE? As for Kim Kardashian it's unlikely that the woman who was accused of using a sex tape scandal to launch a million dollar empire is going to be too troubled by the nay sayers. As Wintour puts it "Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that." Now that she can check Vogue cover off her bucket list, who knows what will be next for Kim? But one things for sure, the high fashion world can now no longer ignore the power of Kimye.
