The Ordinary People hitmaker headed to the hard-hit area of Far Rockaway, Queens, on Saturday (10Nov12) and helped to pass out food and winter clothing to those in need after the superstorm lashed America's East Coast last month (Oct12), destroying hundreds of homes and leaving millions without power.
Legend, whose apartment in Manhattan was left without electricity for four days during the storm, mingled with residents and other volunteers as he surveyed the damage to the Rockaway Beach area for himself and admits he felt compelled to do his bit to help his fellow New Yorkers.
He told local news channel Ny1, "These are my neighbours who are going through this tragedy and loss of property and sometimes loss of life. It's kind of overwhelming, seeing how much people will have to rebuild after this.
"There's not much I can tell them to encourage them, other than help is on the way. And we have to make sure we mobilise everyone in the community to help out."
Newlyweds Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel had also been spotted helping aid workers in the Rockaways on Saturday, while Osbourne followed suit on Sunday (11Nov12) and travelled to Staten Island to chip in with officials at the Salvation Army.
Taking to her Twitter.com page on Sunday morning, she wrote, "On my way to volunteer with the @SalvationArmyUs in StatenIsland DoYourPart SandyIsAnA**Hole but the love it's created is amazing!"
She later added, "Thank you so much @SalvationArmyUs for letting me come volunteer it was such a humbling experience!"
Meanwhile, rap producer Swizz Beatz dug deep and donated $10,000 (£6,250) to Big Apple radio station Hot 97's Hip Hop Has Heart Foundation to aid the victims of the natural disaster.
