Thundercat drops Distracted LP with star-studded features from A$AP Rocky, WILLOW and Tame Impala

Thundercat has unleashed his new album Distracted — and he’s brought a galaxy of big‑name guests along for the ride.
A$AP Rocky, WILLOW and Tame Impala appear across the Grammy winner's latest record, with heavyweight production from Greg Kurstin, Flying Lotus and Kenneth Blume helping shape what’s easily one of the most star‑studded releases of his career.
Distracted arrives as a technicolour swirl of falsetto, funk and existential humour, anchored by a voice that has deepened into something wiser and more vulnerable.
The album plays like a shared fever dream — surreal, warm and full of the contradictions of modern life.
Speaking about the album’s central theme, Thundercat - whose real name is Stephen Lee Bruner - explains: “Sometimes you need to be distracted to focus in a different way.”
The focus track, Funny Friends (feat. A$AP Rocky), leans into that philosophy with sly wordplay, woozy harmonies and a groove that captures the beautiful absurdity of friendship. It’s psychedelic, playful and unmistakably Thundercat.
It also features a posthumous feature from Mac Miller on She Knows Too Much. The pair collaborated over the years, most recently on 2017's Drunk.
Across Distracted, Thundercat wrestles with the noise of the digital age, poking fun at the gap between sci‑fi dreams and the underwhelming reality of modern tech.
Childhood fantasies of Star Trek exploration collide with drones that don’t shoot lasers and phones that only upgrade their cameras — a disappointment he frames with humour and melancholy.
He’s clear about what he hopes listeners take away from the record, saying: “Just enjoy it and have fun and just know that the struggle is real and changes shape, but just keep pushing forward.”
