Flint Lockwood is an inventor who's never really been respected, so far in his career he's been made out to be more of a laughing stock than the serious awesome scientist he wants to be. Remote control televisions, Ratbirds and Hair-unbalder's are among his best inventions to date. Since the Sardine processing factory closed in the town of Swallow Falls, people have been left without work, making nice food one of the hardest commodities to find. Flint has a plan, he's going to invent a machine to turn water into food! The surprising outcome of Flint's hard work is that his machine actually works!

Flint knows he needs to test and prove his new invention but the lack of electricity in his house is a huge problem but he knows the solution, he'll take his contraption to the Power Station and plug in his molecule adjuster in. The sheer power of the electricity grid sent Flint's machine flying into the atmosphere. No one was ready for what was to happen next, it rained food! Any food you wished for! But when the resident of Swallow Falls became greedy, the machine can't take all the requests and soon starts to error. As the situation gets worse, the world is threatened by freak food storms. Flint and his new accomplice Sam Sparks must find a solution and switch the machine off before the world becomes a waste site!
