Check out the new set photo from Prince's 'New Girl' Cameo!
Not long after we first heard Prince would be making his debut cameo in an episode of Fox comedy New Girl, we've already been gifted with the first on-set snap showing The Purple One looking cool yet solemn squeezed in between Zooey Deschanel's Jess and Jake Johnson's Nick on a stone bench.
'New Girl' Super Fan Prince Will Make His Debut Cameo In The Comedy After The Super Bowl.
A raspberry beret would have made an excellent addition to Jess' quirky and preppy wardrobe but there seems to be no sign of one in the shot. Instead, the actress in clad in a grape-coloured coat, with Prince in black leather and Nick strangely wearing a black suit and tie.
Rather than being asked by the New Girl team to join the show for an episode, apparently it was Prince himself who contacted Zooey and Hannah Simone (who plays Cece) to suggest being featured. "[Prince] said, 'I want to be involved in the show in a real way and I want to help Nick and Jess with their relationship'," executive producer Dave Finkel explained, via MTV News.
The show's creator Liz Meriwether spoke about the interaction between the three stars on the show: "[Jess is] goofy and out there, and he's this wise, quiet sort of oracle. Nick's a huge Prince fan. He's immediately like, 'It's an honor to give you my girlfriend', "she revealed to TV Guide.
Prince Will Try To Help Nick & Jess Iron Out Their Relationship Issues Whilst Just Being Generally Funky...Hopefully.
The episode, which will air after the Super Bowl, will feature the icon as himself hosting a house party which Jess and Cece are invited to attend but which the rest of the gang end up crashing. He will also try to help Nick and Jess try to iron out some of the kinks in their relationship.
As well as rendering the couple star-struck, Prince also acts as a relationship guru of his own volition. Executive producer Brett Baer explained: "He's right in the middle of trying to help [Nick and Jess] work through some stuff and it's amazing. His thing was all about getting to Jess and trying to bring out this inner part of her that hadn't been brought to the forefront. The word 'hip tips' was sort of the thing. He put it, I think I can give her some hip tips!"
