Malik says he’s ‘mind-blown’ over the success of his debut solo album.
Zayn Malik has entered the UK album chart at number one this week, with Mind of Mine. Malik’s debut solo album finished with just over 4,000 combined sales ahead of it’s closest rival, Adele’s 25, which fell one place to number two.
Zayn Malik is on top of the UK album chart.
Speaking to the Official Charts Company, Malik said: "I want to thank all the fans and my team at RCA and First Access Entertainment for everything they have done to help me start my journey as a solo artist.”
"It really is the beginning. I can't believe that I have managed to achieve this as a solo artist. I am very proud coming from Bradford achieving this in my home country. It’s mind-blowing to me. I don't take the support I have received for granted. My life at 23 could have been very different.”
Elsewhere in the top five there were two new entries, with US blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa entering at number three with his latest collection Blues Of Desperation. British singer Birdy scored her highest charting album yet, with her third record Beautiful Lies entering at four making it her highest charting album yet.
The top five was rounded off by Justin Bieber’s Purpose, which is celebrating its 20th consecutive week within the top 5. This week’s chart also saw Years & Years’ album Communion rebound a massive 14 places to number 11, after their performance on 'The Voice' last week.
