An official, standalone Justice League movie has been confirmed. It will follow 2016’s hugely anticipated battle between Batman and Superman in what has been dubbed either ‘Man of Steel 2’ or ‘Batman v Superman’, set to commence in 2016.

Zack Snyder will pilot the project, which kicks off an important period for Warner Bros in the Superhero space. Marvel’s dominance of the genre is plain to see, with The Avengers breaking box office records and finding itself in illustrious, billion-dollar company amongst the all time box office grossers list.

And with Thor, Captain America and Iron Man all performing well financially and with the critics alike, not to mention Avengers 2: Age of Ultron, Guardians of The Galaxy and Ant-Man set for this or next year, Marvel Studios are dominated what has become an extremely powerful force in what has emerged to be a hugely lucrative genre.

In terms of a release date, fans shouldn’t expect anything before 2018, but it’s not like the battle between Batman and Superman in 2016 isn’t enough to keep comicbook fans shivering with anticipation. There’s also no word on which superhero will join Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, but a spin off featuring Gal Gadot as the superheroine might just be on the cards.

Warner executives said they are warm to the idea of a standalone Wonder Woman film following Gadot’s casting in ‘Man of Steel 2’. “That is our hope,” said Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing. “With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her.”
