Angelina Jolie Appointed As A Visiting Professor At LSE For New Masters Course

Angelina Jolie has been appointed as a visiting professor at the London School of Economics to teach a new course about the impact of war and security issues on women as of next year.

The prestigious British university announced on Monday (May 23rd) that the A-list actress and director has been appointed as a ‘professor in practice’ alongside former foreign secretary William Hague on a new MSc course titled ‘Women, Peace and Security’, a one year course that will begin in 2017 and for which students can apply from this autumn.

The 40 year old star will give guest lectures, participate in workshops and undertake her own research, taking part in teaching at least once in the academic year and on further occasions as her schedule will allow.

Angelina Jolie-Pitt Warns House Of Lords Committee Of Islamic States’ Use Of Sexual Violence As A Weapon

Angelina Jolie-Pitt, in her role as a UN Special Envoy, attended a House of Lords committee on sexual violence in war on Tuesday (8th September). Acting as a key witness, the 40-year-old Unbroken director warned rape is being used – as it has been used for centuries – in conflicts around the world as a weapon. She further stated Islamic State, which she described as “the most aggressive terrorist group in the world today”, was actively encouraging the use of sexual violence against women and girls in Syria and Iraq.

Angelina Jolie: Honorary Damehood Means "A Great Deal To Me"

Angelina Jolie has released a statement expressing her delight at receiving an honorary damehood on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Jolie was honoured for her services to UK foreign policy and her tireless efforts to try and stop rape being used as a weapon of war.

The Maleficent actress has been working with the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative and has been with Brad Pitt in the United Kingdom over the past week to attend a summit in London. She said in the statement: “To receive an honour related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my life woking to. Working on PSVI [Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative] and with survivors of rape is an honour in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine.”
