Wet Leg, surely at least a nailed on certainty to make the long list of the BBC's Sound Of 2022, wrap up a quite extraordinary year with their third single, 'Too Late Now'. Following the undeniably irresistible debut single, 'Chaise Longue' and it's follow up - 'Wet Dream', the Isle Of White duo are The band of the moment right now.
Speaking to the BBC's Newsbeat programme recently, lead singer Rhian Teasdale admitted that "It's all a bit surreal right now. I do find myself lost for words because it's so unbelievable." Teasdale and her "best mate" of ten years, Hester Chambers, can seemingly do no wrong at the moment. They're being lauded by the press and loved by the public.
Since forming in 2019 Wet Leg have signed to Domino Records and have, as of now, had three releases; their latest coming in the form of a four track EP that collects all three singles plus a bonus track, 'Oh No'. The band are headed out on tour from December onwards with three dates scheduled in support of Glasgow synth-pop band Chvrches just prior to the release of their eponymous debut album.
Talking specifically about their latest song, 'Too Late Now', Rhian said, "It is about sleepwalking into adulthood. I never imagined that my adult life would look the way it does and I guess this song reflects on some of the pressures and pulls of life. Sometimes I get really inside my head and everything can feel very overwhelming. I think this song is about accepting that life can feel a bit s**t from time to time. Maybe don’t indulge that thought too much though. Just take some time for yourself. Take a breath. Have a bath. It might make you feel a bit better".
Wet Leg are amazed at the response that they've had in such a short space of time and have said that "The reaction to those two songs ['Chaise Longue'/'Wet Dream'] has been so good and the opportunities we're receiving are unbelievable. I know that people are putting a lot of faith in us."
Wet Leg's self titled debut album is due out via Domino records on April 8th next year.
