Mark Pollock is one of Ireland's most extraordinary athletes. Blind since the age of 22, he refused to let his disability stop him achieving his dreams and went on to become the first blind person to race to the South Pole. However, as bad luck would have it, he was only weeks away from the wedding of his dreams with partner Simone when he fell from a second story window and tragically broke his back. In unbearable agony but refusing to die, he bounced back - albeit with paralysis from the waist down. And while this had a much more significant effect on his ability to compete in extreme sporting events, it almost became a blessing in disguise forcing him to re-connect with the world and the people around him and become a role model for not just people with disabilites, but everyone. And indeed good fortune eventually came his way with extraordinary research into the cure for paralysis.
'Unbreakable: The Mark Pollock Story' is a gripping, heart-wrenching and uplifting story about one of the world's most remarkable sportsmen. Directed and written by Pollock's good friend Ross Whitaker ('Blind Man Walking', 'The Speech', 'The Gambler'), the documentary features interviews with all those closest to Pollock as well as incredible footage from his childhood, his most jaw-dropping adventures and his most vulnerable moments. It is set to be released in cinemas on October 9th 2015 and on DVD on October 23rd.
