Following on from the two singles he released at the end of 2020, 'Thoughts' and 'NHS', slowthai has now teamed up with A$AP Rocky for his latest, 'MAZZA'. slowthai's new record dropped on January 5th and the video a couple of days later, kicking off Tyron Frampton's 2021 in style.
With his second album, 'Tyron', due out on February 5th this year slowthai is hoping to build on the success of his 2019 debut, 'Nothing Great About Britain'. In the interim the Northampton based rapper has been in and out of the headlines for various reasons, and not all good. Punk band Idles have described slowthai as “an important new voice for Britain” and he himself has been quick to apologise for any previous behaviour that may have caused offense.
With his new album on the horizon slowthai is keen to move forward and showcase his talents as a writer and performer rather than dwell on his past. The new record is in some ways a more introspective album than his debut and features tracks that highlight a softer, mellower Tyron, including his James Blake and Mount Kimbie track, 'feel away' as well as his pre-Christmas release 'nhs'.
Slowthai's latest single, 'MAZZA', however is from the albums heavier and harder side and features A$AP Rocky. With a deep bass that reverberates and hums throughout the new single slowthai and A$AP Rocky rap over the top, sharing vocals on a song that is almost psychotic. The video does nothing to allay this perception as it too is quite frenetic and frenzied and at times, making it a somewhat difficult thing to watch.
