ROSÉ releases her debut solo single 'On The Ground', together with a stylistic, no expense spared video for the hotly anticipated track. BLACKPINK's ROSÉ is not the first member of the band to release a solo single, and it by no means signals the demise of the incredibly popular K-Pop band but what it does highlight is the increasing global presence of Korean bands and performers.
ROSÉ has a fan base that many major artists would kill for and that fan base is now no longer, predominantly, confined to the her country of birth. The anticipation, and to some degree, hype surrounding the release of this ROSÉ's first solo single has been quite phenomenal and in some respects unprecedented.
BLACKPINK have paved the way, together with BTS, in expanding the international appeal of K-Pop like no other bands before them. Neither are a novelty act like PSY could have been considered to be, they are the real deal, wanting and striving to provide top class, slickly produced, radio friendly and commercial Pop songs. Their broad appeal is unapologetic and all encompassing. They are Pop, they are commercial, they want huge chart success and they are achieving it by delivering Pop songs that are well written, catchy and very contemporary.
ROSÉ may have arrived through the doors of a "Pop-star academy" but that doesn't make her any less credible as an artist, she has earned her place in BLACKPINK, has shown her talent and is now giving her fans more of what they crave; more of her. The Internet has been going crazy over the imminent release of 'On The Ground' and it's double A-Side, 'Gone'. The first of ROSÉ's releases has been called a 'Single Album' by the artist and has been given the title '-R-'.
Within 2 hours of the 'On The Ground' premier the video had already been viewed by more than two million people setting it on it's way to becoming one of the most viewed videos of 2021 so far. The filmatic shoot is full of incredible cinematography and captures ROSÉ superbly throughout.
