Just like buses, you get none for ages and then three come along at once. For Rag 'n' Bone Man, aka Rory Charles Graham, those three would be a) celebrating his 36th birthday, b) releasing his latest single 'All You Ever Wanted' and c) confirming his new album will be out on April 23rd this year. Many happy returns of the day Rory!
Rory's new 14 track album, 'Life By Misadventure', is headed up by his first single since he collaborated with Calvin Harris and Robin Schultz on 2019's 'Giant'. 'All You Ever Wanted' features mid-way through the album and is fantastic vehicle to re-introduce us to the formidable vocal talents of Rag 'n' Bone Man. The up beat, percussively energised track is a power-house of a song of that doesn't hold back.
Rory's new single is bold and unreserved putting his vocal front and centre as the cymbals crash, the keys loop and the guitar solo rocks out. This is a different Rag 'n' Bone Man to the one that brought us 'Human' but he's no less compelling. 'All You Ever Wanted' is an altogether different proposition with an unfamiliar arrangement to his norm and change in direction with the production.
"The bulk of the album was produced and recorded by Grammy Award-winning producer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Elizondo (Eminem, Dr Dre, Mary J. Blige, Fiona Apple) at his studio just outside Nashville." (However, one of the new songs was recorded in Rory's garage!) Rag‘n’Bone Man, explains: “I’d felt sad looking around Brighton and London where I grew up, remembering all those cool places that aren’t there anymore.”
Rag 'n' Bone Man's follow up to his stellar breakthrough album 'Human' has been described as a "perfect tonic for these times. An album of depth and soul, about growing up and moving forward." On the evidence of it's first single it may well be just that. A shot in the arm that we all need.
