A newly married Peter Doherty takes us for a wonder along the Normandy coastline in the video for his latest single - 'The Fantasy Life Of Poetry & Crime'. Doherty, who lives his life between his house in Normandy and his hotel, 'The Albion Rooms', in Margate, recently got married to his long term girlfriend, and Puta Madres band member, Katia de Vidas.
The Libertines frontman only announced his engagement to keyboard player Katia a few days before the wedding ceremony but the pair have been together for years and married life certainly seems to be suiting Pete. The 42 year old former hell raiser has been sober for two and a half years now and although he may have added a few pounds he does seem at his happiest and healthiest for an age.
Doherty's latest release comes as The Libertines 'Giddy Up' tour arrives in his adopted home town of Margate. Ahead of the 'home coming' show at The Winter Gardens Pete spoke about his new single. The single's out, "Yes it is. 'The Fantasy Life Of Poetry & Crime' with Peter Doherty and Frédéric Lo, yes it is, the single came out yesterday." When's the record out he's asked, "The record, the album? ...errr, I don't know!" he replies, being a little coy.
Both Pete's new solo album, new Libertines material and a new release from fellow Libertine Carl Barât are in the pipeline but no confirmed dates have yet been announced.
Pete's latest release, with French 'Hallelujah!' artist Frédéric Lo, has a fabulously laid back and laconic arrangement, with a characteristically enchanting melody. It both suits the contented Doherty's mellowed out persona and also the accompanying black and white photography used in the video shoot.
