After releasing a string of singles last year, including two versions of 'Stay away' with Machine Gun Kelly, MOD SUN has started off 2021 with a collaboration with Avril Lavigne. It's Lavigne's first single, and first release of any kind for almost nine months, following 'We Are Warriors' back in April of last year.
On MOD SUN and Avril's new track, 'Flames', both are playing to their strengths in what may initially strike you as an unlikely partnership. The twice divorced Lavigne, who has definitely not always had a easy ride with her relationship history, has been rumoured to have been dating MOD SUN but this appears to be a purely professional relationship that most definitely benefits the both of them.
The song starts with an introductory verse from Avril, as she proclaims her love but it's not long before MOD SUN drops in to liven proceedings up with his raucous and energised EMO outpourings. The two eventually link up together to carry the song forward as a crash of drums and a cacophony of guitars are unleashed. Avril comes full circle at the end to close out the track with her distinctive and engaging vocal.
With MOD SUN's forth studio album expected this year, and Avril deserving of some new impetus to her career this will do neither of them any harm whatsoever.
Only last month Lavigne posted a picture of herself, MOD SUN, and Machine Gun Kelly to Instagram saying, “So are we ready for new music in the new year or what? Lemme know…..” It seems that we are.
