Mattiel are back with their first new music since they released the 'Double Cover' EP last summer as the Atlanta band share their new song, 'Those Words'. Coupled with 'Freedom Feels', Mattiel's latest tracks mark their first release of original material for nearly two years. As well as covering The Beastie Boys, 'Looking Down The Barrel Of A Gun', and The Clash's iconic song, 'Guns Of Brixton', Mattiel have also recorded and released their own version of the Ramones song, 'Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight)' in the interim. Other than that though the 'Count Your Blessings' band have been pretty quiet, until now.
'Those Words' is a signature Mattiel song, it bounces along with an unrelenting energy and perfectly captures the distinctive vocals of Mattiel Brown. Her rich and original voice, with just a little quiver in it's delivery is the undoubted USP of the band, however the soundtrack she accompanies is no less engaging and vital. The tight, driven percussion and revolving guitar riffs provide an urgent and intense backbone to one of the best Indie vocals around.
The video to accompany 'Those Words' is also directed, produced and edited by the abundantly creative lead singer, Mattiel Brown. It showcases the band brilliantly as they perform the Indie-Pop track throughout the mildly psychedelic film. Of course Mattiel herself steels the show as she goes through various costume changes; ranging from a gold lame number through to a near cellophane one-piece, utilitarian two-piece suit, school-girl skirt and retro geometric pattern ensemble.
To celebrate the new release Mattiel have a live stream event scheduled for Friday 30th April. taking to Twitter, the band announced,
"This Friday. Two show times, one hour-long set:
European Broadcast: 7pm GMT / 8pm BST (3pm ET)
North American Broadcast: 5pm PT / 6pm MT / 7pm CT (8pm ET)"
