Mahalia follows up her collaboration with BBC Sound Of 2021 winner Pa Salieu with another, 'Jealous', this time around featuring Rico Nasty. The MOBO award winning, Brit nominated, singer-songwriter and actress took to Twitter on February 17th to announce, "'Jealous' is out now everywhere, the video is also out so go run that upppp".
Mahalia's new song, her first since 'Energy' in November, is to some extent an answer to the negativity she has experienced from her detractors. The 'Sober' singer said, "Unsupportive and negative people around me were hurting me much more than any romantic relationship I had ever been in. That was overwhelming", adding that,"I want to step away from blaming myself for other people’s s*** towards me and start believing in myself, my power and my queen energy".
'Jealous' also marks the first release this year for Rico Nasty as she follows up her album from last year, 'Nightmare Vacation'. The female duo combine seamlessly on their latest, collective release. The smooth R&B song has a looping flamenco guitar underscoring the delicious bass beat giving the song a flavour of summer. The track flits between light and dark as the layered vocal exchanges sit atop the polished arrangement as the song unfolds.
Mahalia sings "I got her jealous I can’t help it no it’s not my fault, You could do better so do better go and prove me wrong, You out here politicking with the ones that's out to get me, Bitches all in my face and you the one they first to mention". Exorcising her demons and calling time on her haters has paid dividends on her new track. The expressive outpouring showcases her ever emerging talent to a tee.
