Keir and Fenne Lily have come together to release an emotionally loaded, very personal song called 'leave a light on'. The new single is the second track each of the artists have released in 2021. Keir has to date released two version of his song, 'Paranoid', and Fenne has released another collaborative single, 'The Desperate Kingdom Of Love' with Max Jury.
Taking to Instagram a week prior to the release of the new single and video the 'Say Love' singer posted, "this little fish and i have a song coming out on Friday (9th) u can presave @ link in bio song is called leave a light on." The "little fish" in the picture was 'Breach' artist Fenne Lily.
On the day of release Keir again took to social media as he explained the inspiration behind his latest release. "leave a light on is out now, how can i put into words what this song means?! last year my grandpa died, & a relationship ended, the whole thing was just terrible terrible, i was on facetime to fenne everyday just basically crying whilst she listened (to me cry) and gradually she helped me to feel more like a human again,, ill never forget that, really,, i realised after we recorded that mbe the song strangely is actually a story of friendship too, especially in the madness of the past year,, anyways sorry for the ramble i love u fenne & thnk u for being a part of this song i hope u guys enjoy." Fenne, obviously touched by Keir's message replied, "don’t make me cry in the laundrette dude come on."
Fenne too shared news about the song, explaining, "my favourite friend asked me to sing on his song and I said yes. ‘leave a light on’ is out now alongside the video we shot on my birthday. which I was put in full makeup for and didn’t hate, this song means a lot to @soundofkeir and therefore to me. it’s comforting to know that I was comforting to him when s**t went down last year, s**t on s**t on s**t. love you my sister you made something glorious."
We couldn't agree more Fenne, the new song is a beautiful, emotive outpouring of heartfelt grief and fondly cherished memories. Keir's tender, soulful and increasingly impassioned delivery paired against Lily's soft and mildly melancholy vocal are a winning combination that perfectly capture the essence and emotion of the song.
