Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head at the age of just 15 while travelling to school on a bus in Swat Valley, Pakistan. Her Taliban attacker targeted her for standing up for the right for girls to have an education. She was taken to hospital in London for life-saving treatment, and while she survived the ordeal, her father was told by doctors this his daughter may never be the same again; they weren't wrong. Since then, Malala has gone on to win the Nobel Peace Prize and has become an influential figure in fighting for female education in fundamentalist countries, co-founding the Malala fund and making heartfelt speeches at the UN. This incredibly brave young woman epitomises the phrase 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger' in the most extreme way imaginable.
