Fireboy DML teams up with Ed Sheeran as they enjoy the nightlife in West London in the video for their new single - 'Peru'. Released on December 24th, just as Ed was celebrating yet another number one UK single with his collaborative charity record - 'Sausage Rolls for Everyone', 'Peru' sees Sheeran swap out partners Elton John and LadBaby for 'Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps' afro-life artist FireBoy DML.
The video for the single dropped at 3pm on Christmas Eve with Fireboy taking to Instagram to express his thanks as he said, "OUT NOW worldwide! ‘peru’ x @teddysphotos prod. by @iamshizzi | big love to my amazing team and everyone who made this possible. this is history. let’s run it up!"
Hopefully the history that Fireboy is hoping for is his first UK chart entry. Having released the same single back in July of 2021 as a solo record, Fireboy DML could only manage to get to a lowly 89. With Ed Sheeran on board the new re-worked version should see Adedamola Adefolahan make his first big impact on the UK Charts.
For Ed Sheeran chart success is more-or-less a given. Last year alone Ed secured number one's with his huge hits 'Bad Habits', 'Shivers' and 'Merry Christmas' as well as a number five with 'Visiting Hours' and a number four with 'Overpass Graffiti'. Ed spent an incredible 18 weeks at number one on the singles chart in 2021; that's a third of the year!!! If that weren't quite enough Sheeran's 'Shape Of You' became the first song to hit three billion streams on Spotify! If Fireboy can enjoy even a slither of that success he'll benefit enormously from the increased exposure.
Nigerian born Adedamola said that "When I started listening to music by myself, Ed Sheeran was one of those people that caught my attention because he had this cool demeanor, [and] soulful, honest lyrics that were very intentional". Fireboy told Rolling Stone magazine that he was "ecstatic" that Ed Sheeran had been able to collaborate with him on the remixed version of his song.
As well as being a very exciting project for Fireboy DML it appears that the Peruvian Government also approved as their official social media feed tweeted - "PERU PARA, PERU PERU PARA!!! Seems like @edsheeran and @fireboydml were inspired by our country to launch their newest hit? Have you already listened to it? It’s called "Peru" and sounds really catchy!
