Doja Cat takes control of the helm as she channels her inner Captain Kirk to recover her favourite feline in the video for her 'Planet Her' album track - 'Get Into It (Yuh)'. In various futuristic get-ups, Doja Cat traverses space and time to confront the nasty alien warlord who's kidnapped her fluffy friend. Doja looks like she's loving her stellar adventure as she combines Wonder Woman swagger with Princess Leia feistiness to rescue her cat, 'Starscream'.
Doja's lavish sci-fi inspired video was directed by American film director and special effects artist Mike Diva (Mike Dahlquist). Diva has previously worked with Lil Nas X and Run the Jewels but has also worked on alternative election videos and ice cream ads for Halo Top.
Doja Cat's homage to Nicki Minaj - "Thank you Nicki, I love you!" she sings, made Entertainment Weekly's Top 10 songs of 2021 but only managed to reach a lowly 68 on the Billboard Hot 100. With the release of the new video Doja will be hoping to boost the song back into the charts, as happened last year when a choreographed video of the track went viral on TikTok.
Doja recently had a pop at those that have suggested she's just a vacuous body with nothing relevant to say. She told Rolling Stone UK that, "You see someone on a screen, and they're putting on an act and doing a thing for the camera, and you're like, Oh, that's how they are all the time. A vapid rapper girl with boobs a**, and I have no opinions. It's a shallow way to think, that the person on the TV is nothing but a glob of pixels doing clown s***".
The 'Kiss Me More' superstar is definitely more than just a "glob of pixels" and is nominated for a whopping eight Grammy's at this year's rescheduled show that is due to take place in April. There is currently no category for "vapid rapper", but she is nominated for 'Best Melodic Rap Performance' for 'Need To Know'. Good luck Doja.
