Malaysian singer Dasha Logan has teamed up with Paul Johnson on her debut single 'Cleverly', released through AreaBoy Music and Expansion and coming before her forthcoming album which is scheduled for release in 2015.
The video is a simple pop theme, featuring black and white shots of Dasha (and later Paul) singing to a mic and coloured shots of her apparently glammed up at a luxury restaurant, but the track itself is far from simple. It's a heavily layered composition with an old school R & B vibe, enhanced by Dasha's seductive, harmonised vocals, the funk-infused rhythm and of course the infectious chorus. The style is inescapably reminiscent of her father's former band.
Dasha was recently signed to AreaBoy Music, who lent the talents of their producer Osiki Ojo to her debut single. She's had nearly ten years professional singing experience at just 26-years-old; an impressive feat for anyone. She takes after her father, Loganathan Arumugam from the Alleycats; a 70s funk band from Philips Polygram Records. Her first gig took place when she was just 17, and now she has plenty more where that came from. 'Cleverly' has already managed to reach number two on the UK Soul Charts.
