There isn’t a music video in the world more 90s than Beabadoobee’s release for ‘Cologne’ - apart from videos actually released in the 90s. It’s her new single from her EP ‘Our Extended Play’, and it’s just as intriguing as last year’s debut.
The video is unexpected narrative about a set of criminal musicians on the road. After attending an audition at a stately home, Beabadoobee and her band break in during a black tie dinner, ransack the place and take a wealthy man hostage with deadly consequences. There’s smoking, there’s gun violence… It could be a video straight out of the 1996.
Much like her critically acclaimed 2020 album ‘Fake It Flowers’, the song has a 90s slacker-rock vibe which is equally reflected in the bubblegrunge of the new EP. ‘Our Extended Play’ also features the songs ‘Animal Noises’, ’He Gets Me So High’ and ‘Last Day On Earth’ - the latter of which saw Beabadoobee collaborate with The 1975’s Matt Healy.
Later this year, Beabadoobee will embark on her ‘Fake It Flowers’ tour, starting on September 7th in Manchester and ending in Glasgow on October 4th with stops in Leeds, Nottingham, Birmingham, Cambridge, Leicester, London, Bristol, Oxford, Dublin, Belfast, Newcastle and Edinburgh.
‘Our Extended Play’ is out now on Dirty Hit Records.
