Just over two weeks since they dropped their stunning new single, 'When I'm Gone', Alesso and Katy Perry have premiered the video that accompanies the sure fired floor-filler. The futuristic, Technicolor spectacle of Perry's provocative performance includes more costume changes than key changes.
'Firework' and 'Roar' hit maker Katy owns the screen as she sings and dances her way through the song in a ruby red pleather corset, a sheer dress and thigh-high white boots, a purple jump suit and a chain mail top. Accompanying Perry into the Los Angeles factory setting for her tightly choreographed performance are not only a troupe of backing dancers but also a 'SpotMini', a four-legged robot made by Boston Dynamics.
Alesso and Perry's video starts as Katy ends a phone call made from an old fashioned stand alone phone booth with Katy's last words being, "You know, I just think it's time to give them everything they want". (She certainly couldn't have done a lot more to fulfill that promise)
The new video was the work of renowned music video and film director Hannah Lux Davis who has previously worked with Avril Lavigne, Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, Drake, Halsey and Miley to name but a few of the incredible artists she has filmed.
The video for Katy Perry and Alesso's first collaborative track also made history when it became the first video to premier during a live ESPN broadcast of the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship. Perry said in a statement that, "When it comes to my music videos we all know I like to push the boundaries and myself, and create unique opportunities for my fans to see them...ESPN and especially College GameDay hold a special place in my heart, so partnering with Alesso to become the first artists to ever debut a global music video within a live event on ESPN made for a perfect and natural pairing".
Alesso revealed that the pair had waited "the whole year" to share their new track with both sets of fans, adding that he "loved working with her [Katy] and think this song and video came out super special".
