Picture: Eddie Van Halen and Wolfgang Van Halen Van Halen and David Lee Roth announce North American Tour at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles, California...
Organisers of the Grammy Awards have spoken out after an expected Van Halen reunion announcement failed to materialise at the nominations concert in Los Angeles on Wednesday night (30Nov11).
The legendary rock band is rumoured to be reuniting Eddie Van Halen with original lead singer David Lee Roth for a 2012 comeback tour and they were expected to appear at the Grammy Nominations Concert Live to confirm the news.
However, the event passed with no mention of the group.
Recording Academy President Neil Portnow has refused to confirm or deny the Van Halen rumour, but he has told reporters a reunion announcement had been planned for the big night, but the musicians involved just weren't ready.
He tells Reuters, "In the world of creativity, everything is fluid. In the process of discussions that we had been having with an expectation that perhaps we would be at a point tonight where the artist involved and we, moving forward, would be ready to announce (a reunion), they weren't quite at that point.
"So it's live television, we go on to the next act. It's rock and roll and so on. That being said, we were genuine about the intention and we are genuine about the discussion."
Van Halen are rumoured to be headlining the 2012 Grammy Awards in February (12).
