55-year-old Kilmer, who is best known for his roles in Batman Forever, The Doors and The Saint, thanked fans for their support in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Saturday (31st January). Kilmer stated he does not have a tumor and had not undergone any surgical operation. However, he had spent time in the ICU at the UCLA Medical Centre in order for staff to keep a "watchful eye" on him following the "complication".

Kilmer thanked his fans and also his friends who had ensured there had been "minimum gossip and silly talk" surrounding his hospitalisation. He also referred to his friends who were aware of his "spiritual convictions" which, according to PerezHilton.com, refer to Kilmer's belief in Christian Science. Christian Scientists are often reluctant to utilise modern medicine and instead focus on prayer, although each individual has different convictions.

Although Kilmer does not have tumor, his representative stated his hospitalisation was the result of "a possible tumor". The representative, speaking to PerezHilton.com, did not expand of Kilmer's actual condition but he explained Kilmer is currently being cared for by his two children and the doctors are "hopeful" Kilmer will make "a full recovery".

Kilmer's full statement reads:

"Thank you for all your sweet support. But I have not had a tumor, or a tumor operations, or any operation. I had a complication where the best way to receive care was to stay under the watchful eye of the ucla ICU. Friends have assisted who know my spiritual convictions and have been most sensitive and kind for the extra effort in making sure there's minimum gossip and silly talk. I am praying for a speedy return to the boards as they say. God bless you all and please don't worry. Love and deep affection , Val."
