In a public hearing on Tuesday (11Aug15), National Transportation Safety Board officials also indicated the limousine carrying Morgan and his pals had been customised, making it difficult to escape from in an emergency, and unused seatbelts were a factor in the severity of the accident, which occurred on 7 June last year (14) on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Morgan was left in a critical condition while his comedy writer James MCNair lost his life. He and MCNair's family have since settled civil claims against the U.S. superstore.

At the hearing the NTSB experts also indicated the limousine was hit from behind as the driver slowed down for construction work on the Turnpike. Investigators claim the truck driver, Kevin Roper, who faces criminal charges for his part in the crash, had been awake for 28 hours and failed to slow down due to his lack of sleep.
