Country star Trace Adkins took time out from his busy schedule on Tuesday (24Jul12) to help renovate a homeless centre in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Chrome singer volunteered at the Urban Ministry Center, which assists those without shelter by providing food and a sense of community.
Adkins, whose family home was ravaged by fire last June (11), helped paint, garden and carry out carpentry jobs during his time at the facility, and he enjoyed his busy morning.
He says, "Most of my adult life, except for the past 15 or 17 years, has been labour-intensive, blue-collar jobs. I've missed that satisfaction of being able to look back on what I've done and have tangible proof that I put in a good day's work. I still need that evidence that I'm making a difference."
Adkins also appeared on local news station Wcnc-TV to talk about the project, and he opened up about his own loss following the blaze at his property in Nashville, Tennessee.
He says, "It's an adjustment of course, my wife and kids are all recovering. I think with girls, they kind of grieve over losing all their stuff a little longer than I did but we're moving ahead with plans to build a new house. Everybody's good... that's all that really mattered."
