Ahead of the release of her four track E.P due out on December 4th, Tori Amos has shared a lyric video for the lead track taken from it, 'Better Angels'. The seasonally focused quartet of original songs is Tori's first release of the year and will be welcomed by her many fans.
'Better Angels' seems to be a rallying call for us all to be a better version of ourselves, realise our potential and do something. "We need some mercy", "Heaven help us out of this never ending spell" and ultimately "Unfreeze those wings that you dreamed of in your chrysalis" all point to our current plight during the current CoVID pandemic.
Tori is, as ever, in fine voice and has written another stunning piano ballad as part of her 'Christmastide' release. Her keyboard skills are unquestionably good and on 'Better Angels' she gives another master class in elegance, refinement and understated beauty. The percussion too is excellent as well as the slide guitar that sits subtlety within the arrangement so as not to overwhelm it.
In the lyric video there is also a limited amount of animation with coloured still slides and a cartoon version of Tori herself at the helm of a ship accompanied by her golden Labrador. In her green Macintosh and with her long red hair she sings out, "A flame for change grows", "Heaven help us help ourselves" as though despairing of the situation we find ourselves in.
Hopefully the new four track Christmas E.P will lead to the further new releases in the New Year.
