The Weekend Box Office results for 31st July-2nd August are in and the latest installment of ‘Mission Impossible’ reigns supreme.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation has topped the U.S. Weekend Box Office (31st July-2nd August). The action film, which was released on 31st July, made $56 million in the U.S. and Canada. The film has made over $40 million more than the other newcomer in the office, Vacation, which comes in at number 2 in the Box Office chart.
The film has done better than expected and, according to reports in Yahoo, has become the second biggest grossing three-day opening of any of the Mission Impossible films. The second film, Mission Impossible II, opened over Memorial Day weekend in 2000 with $70.8 million ($57 million from the weekend itself).
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation is the fifth instalment in the Mission Impossible film series. The film sees the return of Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt as he attempts to prove the existence of The Syndicate, an international criminal syndicate. Cruise stars alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Sean Harris.
At second place is Vacation, the comedy starring Ed Helms and Christina Applegate, which made $14 million in its opening weekend. The two newcomers, MI: Rogue Nation and Vacation, have knocked last weekend’s number one, Ant-Man, off the top spot. Ant-Man comes in at number three and is followed by two animations, Minions and Pixels at four and five. Pixels has suffered the biggest drop in the Box Office chart, dropping from second place. Minions has moved one place, from three to four.
Six to ten in the chart are as follows: Southpaw, Paper Towns, Inside Out and Jurassic World.
