Tom Cruise will attend this year's National Movie Awards.

The 47-year-old actor will attend the awards at London's Royal Festival Hall on May 26 to promote his new movie 'Knight and Day' with a "Hollywood leading lady".

Diane Kruger and her partner Joshua Jackson will also be making an appearance.

Extra security has been drafted in for Tom, and contingency plans are in the works should the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud affect his ability to fly in to the event.

British actor James Nesbitt is hosting the National Movie Awards, and admits he is excited about the event.

He said: "The National Movie Awards has quickly become a highlight of the awards calendar, but what marks it out - and makes the evening so special - is that the awards are chosen by the British public. "We are a nation of movie lovers and there is an extra thrill on the night knowing that millions of filmgoers have chosen the winners."

Among the categories at the awards are Best Action/Thriller and Most Anticipated Movie of the Summer.
