The newly emerged episode comes ahead of the upcoming feature film.
Ahead of the release of the big screen adaptation of 'Dad's Army', the BBC will unveil a special animated episode of a missing story entitled 'A Stripe for Frazer', following the discovery of an audio recording that was thought to be lost with various other 60s shows.
'Dad's Army' comes alongside original lost episode
The original episode aired one time only in 1969 but, along with a variety of other recordings, it disappeared; it was thought to have been scrapped or taped over. However, the audio recently resurfaced, with the quality so good that the BBC decided to recreate it as an animation to be made available to viewers in the BBC online store.
The story sees Captain Mainwaring take pity on Private Frazer by making him a lance corporal alongside Jones; needless to say, he was 'doomed' from the start. Frazer's eagerness for a little power has him in conflict with Jones, and Mainwaring and the other soldiers of the platoon are left ultimately frustrated by his actions when he repeatedly doles out ridiculous charge sheets.
'As the UK renews its love affair with 'Dad's Army' we're delighted to be bringing fans an exclusive chance to buy this brilliant lost episode which has been missing from the 'Dad's Army' portfolio for nearly half a century', said BBC Store director Jonathan Green.
Indeed, fans can look forward to a whole new reboot in the form of the upcoming feature film, starring Toby Jones, Michael Gambon, Bill Nighy and, of course, Catherine Zeta-Jones as a glamorous new journalist character named Rose Winters. The story follows the reporter as news arises of a German spy amongst the Home Guard platoon in Walmington-on-Sea; just the ticket to shake up the day-to-day lives of these bored troops.
