Country singer Tim Mcgraw used to drink a lot, he confesses to People, but with the help of his family he's turned that around and now ploughs a lot of energy into working out and his career.

Now age 45, McGraw entirely quit drinking five years ago. "I drank a lot from my point of view and I needed to stop," he said. Let alone for the good of his career, he had plenty of reason to quit, for his wife, Faith Hill, and his three daughters. "I felt quitting was something I needed to do. I didn't feel I had any moral high ground with my kids in the long run."

He replaced drinking with a strict workout regime and plenty of exercise. "Working out is a great way to go out on stage," he says, and is great for his job. "When I hit the stage, my adrenaline is going and I'm ready."

5 years on and he has a new album on the way, called Two Lanes of Freedom, a title which is mildly indicative of his recent confession. "I really feel like this new album is not a culmination of the things I've done, it's a new beginning of the things I am going to do."

Two Lanes of Freedom is out on February 5th 2013.
