CMA And Country Stars Present A Tearful Taylor Swift With The Pinnacle Award

Taylor Swift Garth Brooks GEORGE STRAIT Faith Hill Tim Mcgraw Brad Paisley Rascal Flatts

Last night’s CMAs were definitely surprising in more ways than one – it was a rookies’ night through and through, with first time winners dominating the list, for starters. More than that though, let’s talk about the fate of one emotional blonde lady in particular: Taylor Swift, who surprised everyone by… not winning. We’re as surprised as you are, but everyone’s favorite country girl went somewhat overlooked by the Country Music Association.

Taylor Swift, CMA Awards
Swift accepted the award in a gorgeous red gown.

Well, that’s not entirely true. Of course Swift received a huge honor when she was announced as the second ever laureate of the Pinnacle award, which is arguably the highest honor bestowed by the Country Music Association, especially considering that Swift is only 23 and just on her fourth studio album. Considering that the only other winner of the Pinnacle Award has been Garth Brooks in 2005… well, you get the picture. It’s a pretty big deal.

The Country Music Association Awards lit up the Nashville nighttime on Wednesday, 6 November, as 'Country Music's Biggest Night' went off with a bang at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. Aired live on ABC last night, the hosts for the evening were once again the ever-reliable Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, who oversaw some memorable moments over the course of the night.

Leading the nominations pack for the 47th annual awards was rising star Kacey Musgraves, who led with six nominations in total. Right behind, with five nominations, was Miranda Lambert, but it was her husband Blake Shelton who finished the night as the biggest winner, taking home two gongs during the ceremony. Officially, it was Taylor Swift who went home with the most awards, although her wins for the Music Event of the Year (shared with Tim Mcgraw and Keith Urban) and the sought-after Pinnacle Award had already being revealed prior to the awards show. She also won (again, sharing with McGraw and Urban) for Music Video of the Year for 'Highway Don't Care.'

The CMAs Honor Nominee Favorite Taylor Swift With Special Pinnacle Award

Taylor Swift Garth Brooks Tim Mcgraw Blake Shelton

Taylor Swift and the CMAs – it’s a match made in heaven and one that continues to reap accolades for the young singer. Ahead of tonight’s show, Swift is up for six whole awards. And while she is a favorite to win big (yet again) Taylor also has one in the bag already. The Country Music Association has decided to also honor the singer with the Pinnacle Award for her success, E! News reports. The world may change, but it's reassuring to know that the Country Music Awards still belong to Swift. There can be little argument about that.

The Pinnacle Award is a special distinction, given to artists, who have achieved international success and recognition, as well as record sales of country music. Since country is usually quite a region-specific genre, the award is a very rare honor, given to only the most successful of performers. To give you a bit of perspective, the only other Pinnacle Award laureate is Garth Brooks, after the award was created in 2005. So it's all very exciting for the young singer, who has achieved unparalleled success with her most recent album, RED, and the subsequent sold out tour.

Besides the distinction, Taylor is also nominated for Entertainer, Female Vocalist, Album, Song, Music Video, Musician and Musical Event of the Year, with the song, video and event nominations being for her work on the Tim Mcgraw song Highway Don’t Care. Blake Shelton is the other favorite, with five nominees. The awards will be broadcast tonight at 6pm PST on ABC.

Any rumours that Faith Hill and Tim Mcgraw are divorcing have been stamped out by their representatives.

Speculation began last week when the National Enquirer reported the couple's marriage was over owing to a number of factors. The couple's representative has spoken to The Huffington Post and firmly denied rumours that McGraw is having an affair with Taylor Swift; that Hill has trust issues or that McGraw is concerned he is mistreating his wife. These rumours have been labelled "totally ridiculous and false" by the couple's representative.

Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry are among the names confirmed for the iHeartRadio Music Festival at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas in September. The two-day festival, set to be held on September 20 and 21, will also feature performances from Elton John, Keith Urban and a special pairing of Queen (with Brian May) and the former American Idol star Adam Lambert.

The main festival line-up was announced on Monday morning (July 15, 2013) in a press conference hosted by Ryan Seacrest. A final schedule will be announced closer to the festival, though Timberlake, Perry, Elton and Bruno Mars are likely to be the marquee names. The likes of Muse, Tiesto, Chris Brown, Fun, Phoenix, Maroon 5, Tim Mcgraw, Ke&ha, Thirty Seconds to Mars and Benny Benassi are other high profile names to have been confirmed.

Last year's festivals played host to No Doubt, Pink, Usher and Swedish House Mafia though it will be remembered for Billie Joe Armstrong's meltdown during Green Day's set. After smashing the band's instruments in protest of his set being cut short, Armstrong left the stage and was admitted to rehab the next day, cancelling his band's tour dates and promotional appearances.

It's Back To Basics As Taylor Swift Rocks CMA With Tim McGraw And Keith Urban

Taylor Swift Keith Urban Tim Mcgraw

These days Taylor Swift is an unstoppable force in pop, but she made it clear that she hasn’t forgotten her country roots when she teamed up with Tim Mcgraw and Keith Urban at the 2013 CMA Music Festival in Nashville this weekend, The LA Times reports. Taylor joined McGraw for a performance of his latest single, Highway Don’t Care, which is a collab between McGraw, Urban and Swift herself, and sounds like a cross between a ballad and a PSA for careful driving. It is a pretty catchy tune though and the trio managed to do it justice with their live performance.

At first, Swift appeared onstage alone to perform an homage to her idol – one of her first hits, “Time McGraw” after which the man himself materialised on stage and the two launched into the emotional performance of Highway Don’t Care. Urban popped by soon after for the ballad’s guitar solo. After their appearance, all three musicians were ecstatic and didn’t fail to share the feeling with their fans over Twitter.

“Such a blast joining @TheTimMcGraw and @taylorswift13 tonite at #CMAfest!!! Ready to rock Saturday!!! –KU,” tweeted Urban after the show. For a snippet of their number together, check out the video below.

Country Giant Tim McGraw Is Being Sued For Copyright Infringement

Tim Mcgraw

Country voice Tim Mcgraw is being sued by his former label for using songs he reportedly recorded while with them – not a good way to kick off a new album for sure. McGraw’s “Two Lanes of Freedom” is a chart topper, but it’s also getting the singer into quite a bit of trouble, as Curb, McGraw’s former label, is crying copyright infringement on the album’s fifteen tracks – including hits like “Truck Yeah!” “One of Those Nights” and “Highway Don’t Care.” The claim was filed late Monday in the US District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee and, if the company can prove that the songs were recorded whole McGraw was still under contract, this could turn into a serious lawsuit.

“Two Lanes of Freedom” is McGraw’s first album with his new label, Big Machine Records. It was released earlier this year – February 15 to be precise – and quickly rose to the top of Billboard’s country chart.

The legal battle between Curb and McGraw has been going on for a while now. The label, which has distributed the singer’s music since the distant 1997, claimed that McGraw’s planned move to Big Machine would cause the company irreparable harm. However, the case didn’t hold up and in 2012 a judge ruled that the cash cow of a performer was free to move to Big Machine. The outcome wasn’t good for Curb, so maybe this new lawsuit is driven by a bit of leftover bitterness.

Faith Hill's Braces, Grammy Awards 2013Faith Hill's Braces Were A Huge Talking Point At The Grammy Awards

Faith Hill's braces became the subject of intense discussion and debate during the Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 10, 2013), with the country songstress debuting her new mouth gear. The singer looked stunning in a black J. Mendel gown though confused fans by wearing braces, despite her usually flawless smile.

Hill told country station KNIX that she had braces as a kid, but forgot to wear her retainer. When explaining the need for a second round of dental gear, Faith advised. "Kids, wear your retainer!" Her two eldest daughters with husband Tim Mcgraw - Gracie and Maggie - both wear braces, too. The couple presented an award at Sunday night's 55th annual Grammy Awards and were photographed hanging out with their close friends Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. Five-times winner Grammy winner Faith Hill teamed her lavish gown with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery, Tom Ford shoes and a pretty impressive looking Bottega Veneta clutch.

Tim McGraw On Two Lanes Of Freedom, 'Truck Yeah' Country And The Future

Tim Mcgraw

Tim Mcgraw, in the lead up to the release of his latest album Two Lanes of Freedom (released today, Feb. 5th), has spoken about his sobriety and diet plans. While his experiences with his family, with alcohol and with getting sober have certainly informed his new music, speaking to the Washington Post, he has also spoken about recording country music at this later stage of life, now aged 45, and the differences that brings.

The Washington Post pose a question about whether it's possible for country singers to avoid the clichéd topics of country music. In the first single from his latest album, 'Truck Yeah', he returns to all those conventional tropes, it's a "shiny ode to chicks, trucks, chicks in trucks, beer, football and general redneckery" writes the website.

But, part of that cliché is an important effect of the song for McGraw. "'Truck Yeah' for me was very reminiscent of the things I did that sort of broke my career out, stuff like 'Indian Outlaw' or 'I Like It, I Love It,'?" he said. "Just things that were sort of fun."

Tim McGraw's Newfound Sobriety Has 'Improved Marriage'

Tim Mcgraw Faith Hill

Tim Mcgraw gave up the booze for good back in 2008, and now five years later the country star has reflected on the profound effect giving up the booze has made on his life in an interview with People magazine.

His relationship to wife Faith Hill, he says, is one of the areas of his life that has improved considerably since packing in drinking, with the singer's sobriety beginning when he first noticed that the drink was beginning to affect him on a very personal level. He reveals to the magazine: “I wasn’t a beer drinker. I was more a whiskey drinker. And I wouldn’t just have a drink. If I was going to drink, I’d have some drinks. People were worried about me. It was to the point where I felt it was negatively affecting my relationships and getting in the way of things I wanted to accomplish in life. So I quit… I am probably less embarrassing to her now.”

As well as improving on his marriage, McGraw has used the time he used to spend searching for the bottom of numerous bottles to concentrate on his health now, enlisting the help martial arts expert Roger Yuan for three 90-minute sessions a day. The workout firmly took over from the booze for McGraw, who shows off the effects of his new workout programme in the photo-shoot for the magazine, and boy can you tell where his efforts have been heading: straight to his abs. He went on to say, about his workout regimes, "My workout program took the place of alcohol, and it’s really important. … I was always in pretty good shape but for a while I let it go a little bit. There are aches and pains but I feel pretty young.”
