Pledgemusic Team Up With The Sunshine Underground For Ross-orton-produced Record

The Sunshine Underground are pleased to announce they've teamed up with PledgeMusic, confirming the release of their Ross Orton-produced third studio album in early 2014, available in a range of special edition and exclusive formats. Following the announcement of their run of headline tour dates in November 2013, TSU have now also confirmed their support of The Happy Mondays during November and December's shows celebrating the 25th anniversary of Bummed.

Ross Orton, whose recent credits include Arctic Monkeys' Mercury nominated 2013 album AM, will take the helm of producing, working with the band's recently defined shift towards electronica, unifying high energy guitar melodies with a classic, British mentality for songwriting. Working with Orton, the band have promised an album that will pay homage to the roots of their debut record, loaded with defined, upbeat and optimistic party moments, with songs now built less on a band formula, instead members Craig Wellington, Stuart Jones, and Matthew Gwilt taking a new approach.

Since 2009's Nobody's Coming To Save You, The Sunshine Underground have been dissecting their favorite electronic albums, understanding the mechanics behind them and taking great interest in how those sounds were created - the method, the synths, the construction - and are now applying those principals of using technology as an instrument in the grain of their songwriting. They will remind fans that TSU are still a band with guitars, but are no longer a guitar band, making Ross Orton's role behind the desk all the more fascinating.

The album will be released on all formats as part of exclusive bundles that offer fans unique items and experiences including the chance to record with the band as well as join them on tour and even have their very own intimate performance. The partnership with PledgeMusic has allowed The Sunshine Underground to reconnect and interact with their fans in a way that allows them to be involved in the entire creative process around the record's release, due for early in 2014.

As part of a longer statement for PledgeMusic, the band have said;

"It's an interesting time for music, the industry has changed a lot since we first started out and there are now some really forward thinking alternatives to releasing music these days. Ways that mean we can have the creative freedom of making an album exactly how we want to and don't have to reply on a record label to do it and instead share the whole process with the people who care the most about it."

A fan-only release of a specially recorded live mini album has already been confirmed ahead of Christmas as a bonus for any pledgers, with more content from the campaign being confirmed as it progresses. The band's first ever official live record will feature old and new tracks, designed to connect the music from their debut record, 2006's Raise The Alarm, into the soundscape of the untitled third album.

On touring with The Happy Mondays, the band have said "we've toured with them before, so we know it's going to be a fun one with great crowds. and as we're putting together new tracks with a different sound there's few bands we can think of that really cemented the join between a good groove and guitar music".

This summer The Sunshine Underground released the vinyl/download single 'It Is Only You', with new song 'Add Up To Nothing' and a remix of the title track by Brighton-based and Radio 1 tipped King Dinosaur, who also joins the band on their run of headline shows later this year.
