Describing the original episode in 2000, Simpsons’ writer Dan Greaney told the Washington Post why they picked Trump to be their fictional leader.
Greaney said that Trump was the best fit for the episode in a comedic way.
During that storyline, Lisa becomes the first "straight female" President while Bart has slacked his life away.
And from the Oval office she says: "As you know, we’ve inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump."
Of their choice in Presidential character, Greaney said: "He seems like a ‘Simpsons’-esque figure - he fits right in there, in an over-the-top way.
"He seemed kind of lovable in the old days, in a blowhard way."
But he added: "I would never have predicted this campaign."
