Fact: Former Led Zeppelin star Robert Plant is planning to hit the road with The Pixies. The Heaven Knows singer has invited Frank Black and his bandmates to support him when he plays upcoming North American shows in Chicago, Illinois, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Toronto, Canada, Rochester Hills, Michigan and Raleigh, North Carolina.
Quote: "I guess you wouldn't want to get into a fight with Phil Spector, he'd have a gun in every pocket and he'd be itching to use them." Pixies rocker Black Francis would be wary of tussling with the notorious music producer, who is serving 19 years-to-life in prison for shooting actress Lana Clarkson in 2003.
Quote: "I'm an overweight man and that inhibits a lot... I've tried to put on shades and be cool or whatever, but it always feels like too much of an affectation. It's easier for me to go, 'Look I am who I am, f**k it'. I maybe felt more comfortable in my skin when I was younger. Fat people, you know, they put on weight because it's a barrier, it's a way to keep life away." Pixies rocker Black Francis has no hang-ups about his size.
Quote: "We were at a little coffee shop near the studio and Kim walked in at some point and said, 'I'm flying home tomorrow'. She quit the band. It was an awkward moment. We didn't hug or shake hands or anything. Joey (Santiago) and I just stood up and said, 'Ok'. Then we had to get out of there, so we immediately went to a bar. I had to move from coffee to alcohol." Pixies frontman Black Francis on how he and guitarist Joey Santiago dealt with Kim Deal's decision to leave the band earlier this year (13).
Quote: "It is just sort of insulting... that all I will probably be remembered for is the fact that a very famous dude casually dropped my name in an interview. That this is as good as it will get for me, that I will always be subservient to that remark." The Pixies frontman Frank Black fears his biggest legacy will be inspiring Nirvana legend Kurt Cobain.
Fact: The Pixies opened their latest reunion tour in Hollywood on Wednesday (04Nov09) with a showing of LUIS BUNUEL's 1929 surrealist movie short Un Chien Andalou - the inspiration behind their fan favourite Debaser - which opens the band's cult 1999 album Doolittle.
