The Django Unchained star will also produce the project, which is based on journalist Franklin Foer's The New York Times Magazine article of the same name.
The true story follows social climber and conman Albrecht Muth who killed his wealthy 91-year-old widow, Viola Drath. Muth, who Waltz will portray, was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 50 years in prison for the crime in 2014.
Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Auburn has penned the script, and production is slated to begin in the autumn (15).
