Tessa Ferrer and Gaius Charles have not had their picked up for the next season of Grey's Anatomy and will leave the show, Deadline has confirmed. The pair - who play Leah Murphy and Shane Ross - joined Grey's as interns last season, along with Camillia Luddington and Jerikka Hinton.

Leah and Shane are best known for their romantic entanglement and recently, Leah filed a complaint against the hospital's non-fraternization policy. Perhaps that will come back to haunt her? It's not yet known if Ferrer and Charles could return for guest appearances in the future, though if they go the same way as a certain member of The Good Wife cast, that could be off the cards.

It's a strange decision from ABC, given that the pair were promoted to regulars heading into the 10th season of the medical drama - which is poised to return next fall after Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey inked new deals to continue.

Dempsey recently opened up about the key to 'surviving' on the show, explaining, "I'm not the creator, I'm not the writer, so it's a trade. And that's fine," he said. "But when you've been on a show (for nearly 200 episodes), it's about surviving. You find ways to turn yourself on with the material you're given. . For me at this point, there's not a lot of homework that goes into it. You learn your lines and try to be present and try not to get caught acting." He added, "I'm glad I have the gig, but it's not the same as being in a race car. It's just not."

This also marks the final season for original Grey's Anatomy cast member Sandra Oh.
