Good news for American music fans! The organisers of the massive Rock in Rio music festival have announced plans to hold an event in Las Vegas.

Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift will be headlining the brand new festival

According to Nation, the concert will take place in May next year over two weekends, with Metallica and Taylor Swift the top names on the bill. Also performing will be Linkin Park, No Doubt, and John Legend. There aren't many other festivals where you would catch all those acts on the same bill! Roberta Medino, daughter of the festival's founder Roberto Medino, also announced they will spend $25 million on a publicity campaign to drive ticket sales, but with such a star-studded bill, they might not have to push too hard!

The organisers are building their own venue, 'City of Rock' which will house the event, with an eighty-thousand capacity and five stages. However, they also announced that the festival will only take place once every two years with the venue to be used for other events in between.

Rock in Rio originated in Brazil in 1985, but has also taken place in Lisbon, Portugal, and Madrid, Spain. At the original concert acts including Queen, AC/DC, Iron Maiden and Rod Stewart topped the bill. At last year's event in Lisbon, The Rolling Stones, Justin Timberlake and Arcade Fire were amongst the acts that performed over five days.

With the acts that they have announced, it seems that Rock in Rio USA is aiming for more mainstream bookings than the other big name American festivals such as Lollapalooza and Cochella which tend to focus on indie and alternative acts.
