Any rumours about the cast of the highly anticipated second series of HBO's 'True Detective' can finally stop as the leading and supporting roles have finally been filled by an very talented pool of actors.

The cable network has now unveiled three more cast members, which includes Rachel McAdams as the female lead, as well as English actress Kelly Reilly and Taylor Kitsch in supporting roles. They will join the already announced leading men, Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn.

HBO also revealed production of the eight-episode second season is already underway in California, with 'Fast & Furious' director Justin Lin taking the helm of the first two episodes.

This ensemble cast will have tough task in following on from the success of last season. The stars of season one, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, were each nominated for an Emmy Award.

The premise of the upcoming series will follow three police officers and a veteran criminal. Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, "a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him." Whereas Vaughn will star as Frank Semyon, "a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner."

HBO also released detailed information about who the newly cast actors will be portraying.

McAdams' character, called Ani Bezzerides, is a "Ventura County Sheriff's detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves." And Taylor Kitsch will play Paul Woodrugh, who is "a war veteran and motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol, running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened."

Finally, Reilly's character, Jordan, is "Frank Semyon's wife, a former D-list actress who is a full partner in his enterprises and ambitions."
