Actress Tara Reid feared she had been left blinded after she was smashed in the face with a glass at a London nightclub last year (12), a court has heard.

The American Pie star was celebrating her birthday at the Beat venue in London's West End on 8 November, 2012 when she allegedly became embroiled in an altercation with another reveller.

Reid was admitted to hospital suffering from cuts and bruises, facial injuries and a corneal abrasion.

According to, former model Maryam Hassan, 27, is accused of hurling a glass at Reid during an argument at the nightclub, and a statement from the actress was read out during her trial at Southwark Crown Court in London this week (beg09Dec13).

In the statement, which Reid gave to police, she claims the alleged incident took place after Hassan tipped a drink over her: "I noticed a female who kept approaching the table a few times... She came up to me and threw the contents of her drink over my chest. I reacted immediately and threw my drink over her... She went crazy, she went psycho like Naomi Campbell," adding of the alleged attack, "It was so quick, she stood close to me within arms' length, and smashed the glass in my face."

Reid also claims she "could not open my eyes" after the glass struck her.

Hassan, from Jarrow, England, is also accused of racially abusing a security guard after he ejected her from the nightclub.

She denies a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress.

The trial continues.
