The Fat Lip stars are preparing to release 13 Voices, their first new album in five years, and frontman Whibley, who wrote, engineered and produced all the tracks two years after he almost died as a result of his heavy drinking and wild ways, reveals the music will reflect everything he has been through.

"I am really excited to be releasing an album after everything I've been through recently," Avril Lavigne's ex-husband writes on "This new music represents the journey I've been on throughout the process of making this record. I had to fall in order to rise, and nothing feels better than to have something you love that you had to really fight for.

"I can honestly say that ‪#‎13Voices‬ saved my life and I cannot wait to share it with all of you."

Last year (15), the 36-year-old opened up about his near-death experience, insisting he was grateful the medical scare came when he was young enough to survive it.

"I'm glad it happened now and not when I'm, like, 50, because my body wouldn't have been able to handle it...," he told "However, now I'm feeling better than I've ever felt. I'm healthier. I'm in the best shape of my life.

"The doctors said I was lucky to be alive and that there was still a chance I could die...," he continued. "I do look back and think about how much worse it could have been. I could have had way more health problems than I had, but my liver is fine! Everything shut down before any more damage could happen. To walk out of there alive, without cirrhosis or needing transplants, you know, it could have been worse."
