Tom Odell wrote most of his album A Wonderful Life while on tour.

The Another Love hitmaker released his seventh studio record earlier this month and found creative inspiration easy to come by when he was travelling.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Tom said: "A lot of the lyrics were written in notebooks on airplane tray tables and perched on my knee in train stations.

"Travelling is a great place to write words, because there is so much life buzzing in and around you.

"I think the most revealing song title might be Can We Just Go Home Now – definitely written at the end of the tour."

Tom has previously won both BRIT and Ivor Novello Awards earlier in his career but has little interest in being the centre of attention now.

The 34-year-old singer said: "The Ivor Novello was pure joy. I'd read about them as a teenager and dreamed of winning one, but I never thought it would happen so young.

"Looking back at pictures of me at 22, I look like a rabbit in the headlights – which I was, I had a brief entanglement with fame, going to those parties where paparazzi are waiting outside, cameras flashing.

"It's fun once or twice, but after that I knew it wasn't for me. Too terrifying. These days, I just release music and tour. You won't see much of me outside of that."

Tom opened for Billie Eilish on the European leg of her Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour earlier this year and said it was a "joy" to share the bill with the Bad Guy artist.

He said: "Billie is my favourite artist working in music today. Her songs are incredible and her live show is truly phenomenal.

"It was pure joy to be in close proximity to her while she worked. We got to hang out a bit too and she is awesome."

Odell explained that the title of his latest album reflects where he is in his life at present.

The Real Love singer said: "For years I was running towards this mirage, always working, thinking one day I'd arrive and feel satisfied.

"Then I realised everything I aspired to have or be was already here, in every moment. Just being alive is a total miracle."
