The music veteran is an outspoken supporter of tougher gun laws and he made a speech about the issues close to his heart while performing in Central Park.

He told the audience, "As much as we have made some incredible strides, we have also really gone to this crazy place, like them against us and us against them. We really need to do that thing called fixing the planet, by fixing each other, fixing ourselves. That includes everyone, me and us, in the spirit of love... We have gotta find a place, we as Americans of all ethnicities, we've got to put an end to it (gun violence). What we have to do, whether you're NRA (National Rifle Association of America) or whatever, is find a place of everyone being accountable for every gun we have here."

Wonder went on to propose the idea of a Claim the Bullet campaign to encourage gun users to take responsibility for their actions, adding, "If you want to shoot the gun, then claim the bullet. It doesn't deprive people of their freedom, but it does hold people accountable because you can't take a life back."

The concert was the last in a series of free gigs performed by the star along America's East Coast on Monday (17Aug15) to promote his upcoming Songs in the Key of Life Performance tour.
