SuperMensch: The Legend Of Shep Gordon Review

Excellent

For his lively film directing debut, Mike Myers (aka Austin Powers) traces the remarkable life of his friend, the almost too-likeable music manager Shep Gordon. A mensch is a really nice guy, and this film documents how Gordon has created a makeshift family of loyal friends around him, even though he's never had a proper family of his own. It's an engaging movie that reminds audiences that the most important thing in life is certainly not fame.

Shep Gordon came to Los Angeles as a young man and happened to stay in the same hotel where Joplin, Hendrix and Morrison were hanging out. Quickly getting involved in their blurry world of drugs and money, Shep won over everyone he met simply because of his integrity and generosity. As a manager, he lived the high-life with high-powered girlfriends like Sharon Stone (who introduced him to Buddhism) and a Playboy Playmate wife. He helped Groucho Marx sort out his finances, and worked with lifelong pal Alice Cooper to create Cooper's iconic on-stage persona. And he's still considered one of the best fix-it men in the business. His home in Maui is a bolt-hole for any of his celebrity buddies who are trying to escape the limelight.

The film is assembled with a snappy rhythm that catches a sense of Shep's fast-paced lifestyle. It's packed with great film clips, hilarious home movies and even a few re-enactments. But the best stories are told by the starry interviewees who clearly adore Shep and recount riotous backstage anecdotes about their experiences with him, as well as his larger-than-life personality and unstoppable libido. The most jaw-dropping story is about how he ramped up clean-cut Canadian singer Anne Murray's reputation and career by having her photographed with super-cool lothario Teddy Pendergrass. But with a life this high-flying, Shep has never found a life partner or had his own children. Although he has become a father figure to his ex-wife's kids, essentially raising them himself.

Is Axl Rose Really The World's Best Singer?

Axl Rose Guns N Roses Mariah Carey Prince Steven Tyler Kanye West

Axl Rose is infamous for many reasons. His constant late appearances, sometimes taking to the stage almost two hours after their billed start, means every recent Guns n’ Roses tour is dogged by disgruntled fans and a swathe of bad press. The singer is notorious for his cantankerous temperament which has resulted in numerous cancelled appearances and YouTube-worthy angry rants that would give even Kanye West’s irritable soliloquys a run for their money. He is so surrounded by criticism that it is no surprise the frontman’s vocal attributes are often overlooked.

Axl Rose Performing At The Hard Rock Hotel, Las VegasRose has posted a bashful response to the award of "World's Best Singer"

Now, the singer has been named as the best vocalist of all time on a recently published chart, an accolade that is extremely misleading given the nature of the basis for which the award has been meted out to the rock legend. The award is based on versatility in vocal range rather than any consideration for tone, grain or strength which are commonly considered as the most endearing vocal traits.

Epic Review

Good

Although this adventure's premise will appeal to children, and the child within us, the film itself is far too simplistic to be a classic. But at least the animation looks terrific, with swooping action and an inventive use of nature imagery. The result is relatively engaging, consistently entertaining and never remotely suspenseful.

The story begins as teen Mary Katherine, better known as MK (voiced by Seyfried), returns home to live with her mad-inventor dad (Sudeikis) after her mother dies. Dad's house is on the edge of the forest, where he is obsessed with discovering a miniature world of beings who keep the natural world running. But his focus on work has alienated everyone in his life, and MK is still struggling to break through to him. Then she has a freak encounter with the tiny Queen Tara (Knowles), who shrinks her to two inches tall. Suddenly she's working with the Queen's chief leafman Ronin (Farrell), a rogue soldier Nod (Hutcherson), and a goofy slug and snail duo (Ansari and O'Dowd) to save the forest from the evil Mandrake (Waltz).

The script eliminates all complexity in its depiction of good and evil. Mandrake is bent on destroying the forest for no real reason, trying to bring his creeping grey decay to what is otherwise an idyllic, magical world drenched in colourful flowers, verdant ferns and trickling brooks. In other words, it's so obvious who is going to win this battle that we never for a moment worry about our rag-tag group of heroes, no matter what violence they face. So we sit back and enjoy the animators' work. While the humans look like plastic dolls, the bugs, birds, plants and critters are simply astounding, and some of the action scenes are genuinely exhilarating.

Steve Tyler Spent An 'Easy' $5 Or 6million On Drugs, "It's What We Did"

Steven Tyler

In an interview with Australia's '60 Minutes' Aerosmith frontman Steve Tyler has admitted to spending an easy $6m on drugs during the band's heyday, reports News.au.

Tyler struggled with a drug addiction for many years but has now been clean for twenty. He had a slight relapse with addiction, having become reliant on prescription medication during the late noughties. He has also overcome that addiction and continued a successful career, most recently appearing as a judge on American Idol.

Back in 2011 there were reports that he'd claimed he spent $20m on damaging substances, ultimately driving away people close to him and into brief financial ruin. "I blew 20 million," he told People magazine. "I snorted my Porsche, I snorted my plane, I snorted my house in that din of drugs and booze and being lost. I kept my medicine cabinet on stage, in a fourteen-inch drum head, the bottom of which contained... one Dixie cup with a straw and blow in it and the other with Coca-Cola and Jack Daniels in it... Left to my own devices I probably would have been dead several times over" (Telegraph). He also found out he had contracted Hepatitis C a few years ago which he blames on his intravenous drug use, according to TMZ.

Songwriting Hall Of Fame Welcomes Tony Hatch, Mick Jones & Lou Gramm, Holly Knight, JD Souther And Steven Tyler & Joe Perry

Aerosmith Steven Tyler Joe Perry

Tony Hatch, Mick Jones & Lou Gramm, Holly Knight, JD Souther and Steven Tyler & Joe Perry have all been announced as fresh inductees to the Songwriting Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Manhattan.

"Each of our 2013 inductees has been responsible for captivating the world with their creativity for decades, serving up a rich variety of songs for our global soundtrack," said Hall chairman Jimmy Webb in a release. "We are looking forward to celebrating their contributions at our Annual Awards Gala." Perhaps the biggest addition to the hall of fame this year is Aerosmith. Co-founded in 1970 by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, the band comprised them, guitarist Ray Tabano, bassist Tom Hamilton and drummer Joey Kramer. Tyler and Perry were recently announced as the next recipients of ASCAP's Founders Award, too. 2013 still has a lot of unannounced awards - The Abe Olman Publisher Award, Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award, the Towering Song Award, the Towering Performance Award and the Hal David Starlight Award all all still to be handed out this year.

Aerosmith Songs Land Steven Tyler, Joe Perry In Hall Of Fame

Steven Tyler Aerosmith Joe Perry

Steven Tyler probably thought that he could receive no higher accolade than being asked to participate in the American Idol judging panel so imagine the joy that the Aerosmith frontman must have experienced when he discovered that he’d be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, along with his co-writer Joe Perry.

Associated Press broke the news that Tyler and Perry will be landed with the Hall of Fame honor for the creative prowess that he has displayed on songs such as ‘Dude Looks Like A Lady’ and ‘Love In An Elevator.’ Tyler and Perry have not always enjoyed the most harmonious of working relationships but they recently released their 15th studio album, entitled Music From Another Dimension. Joining Tyler and Perry in the Hall of Fame will be Lou Gramm and Mick Jones of Foreigner, as well as Holly Knight, JD Souther and Tony Hatch.

Holly Knight wrote the songs ‘Love Is A Battlefield’ and ‘Invincible’ for Pat Benatar as well as penning several of Tina Turner’s hits. Hatch, meanwhile, made his name by writing songs like ‘Downtown,’ for Petula Clark, during the British Invasion of the 1960s. Foreigner were among the bands at the forefront of the 80s rock ballad sound, with Jones and Gramm churning out hits like ‘I Wanna Know What Love Is’ and ‘Cold As Ice.’

No Pictures Please! Steven Tyler Leads The Fight Against Paparazzi

Steven Tyler Britney Spears Avril Lavigne Tommy Lee Neil Diamond

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler will attend a hearing in Hawaii on Friday (February 8, 2013) for discussions on a bill that would limit people's freedom to take photographs and videos of celebrities. Hawaii's Senate Judiciary Committee plans to consider the so called 'Steven Tyler Act' this morning - the first time in which lawmakers will discuss the bill publically.

A publicist for the former American Idol judge - one of the most recognizable men on the planet - told the Associated Press that Tyler has submitted written testimony supporting the proposal, which would allow celebrities to collect damages from someone who takes photographs in an offensive way. Tyler certainly has some big hitters on-side, including Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Neil Diamond, Tommy Lee and the Osbourne family. "Providing a remedy to the often-egregious acts of the paparazzi is a very notable incentive to purchase property or vacation on the islands," the stars say, "Not only would this help the local economy, but it would also help ensure the safety of the general public, which can be threatened by crowds of cameramen or dangerous high-speed car chases." The proposal is perhaps all the more relevant following the recent death of a photographer in Los Angeles who was attempting to snap pictures of Justin Bieber.

Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie says he supports the intent of the bill, though warns it may needed refining. Opponents simply say the bill could be unconstitutional.

Demi Moore's New Boyfriend: 7 Things To Know About Vito Schnabel

Demi Moore's new boyfriend is 26 years-old. That's 3 years younger than her ex-husband Ashton Kutcher - as Alan Partridge might say, "Cashback". Ok, so art dealer Vito Schnabel might not be as rich as the Two and a Half Men star, but we reckon he's still got a healthy bank balance.

They reportedly got together at a lavish 50th birthday party in India, thrown by supermodel Naomi Campbell for her billionaire boyfriend Vladimir Doronin. A source said, "They were dancing and grinding all over each other, openly, in front of other guests." So who is this mysterious art dealer? Here's 7 things you should know about Demi's new love, Vito Schnabel.

1. He's only 26. Ok, so we've already gone through this, but it's probably worth repeating. It pretty much sets in stone the long held theory that Moore loves a younger man.

Was Steven Tyler's Nicki Minaj Criticism Really Racist?

Nicki Minaj Steven Tyler Bob Dylan

Steven Tyler has strenuously denied that he is a racist, after Nicki Minaj pulled him up on his criticism of her judging methods. The current American Idol judge publically slammed Tyler after the Aerosmith singer insinuated that she doesn't understand true rock music, saying she "would have sent [Bob Dylan] to the cornfield" had he tried out for the show.

The remarks incensed Minaj, who fired back on Twitter, "That's a racist comment. You assume that I wouldn't have liked Bob Dylan??? why? black? rapper? what? go f*** yourself and worry about yourself babe." A debate ensued between fans of both artists on Twitter, but yesterday (November 28, 2012), Tyler explained himself on the Canadian talk show 'eTalk', saying, "I apologize if it was taken wrong, Nicki ... but I am the farthest from [being a racist]. I am the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist. I don't know where she got that out of me saying I'm not sure how she would've judged Bob Dylan."

There's no word yet on whether the Pink Friday star has accepted the apology, though cryptically tweeted, "Always remember, keep it real with YOURSELF... Even when it's hard to keep it real with the world, keep it real with YOURSELF."

Nicki Minaj Slams Steven Tyler's "Cornfield" American Idol Comments As "Racist"

Nicki Minaj Steven Tyler

He may be starting to look like a jacket potato in a wig, but Aerosmith man and former American Idol judge Steven Tyler still has can still get edgy when it comes his thoughts – though this time he might well have crossed the line.

Tyler was giving a forthright account of the judges who have replaced him and Jennifer Lopez on the show, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, when he dropped what can at best be described as a clanger and, at worst, racist. Tyler was talking about giving opinions as a judge, and commented: “It wasn't hard for me, but I would imagine it's hard for some people, and they need a manager to say 'Shut the f*** up, and just give them your opinion.’ These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere and they're in New York City, they're scared to death; you're not going to get the best [out of them]” Forthright there, but nothing too wrong. This bit was though: “If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying."

Trinidian-born American Nicki Minaj was non-too impressed by Tyler’s use of the word “cornfield”, and duly took to Twitter to complain. "Steven Tyler said I would have sent Bob Dylan to a cornfield??? Steven, you haven’t seen me judge one single solitary contestant yet!” She hit back, continuing “I understand you really wanted to keep your job but take that up with the producers. I haven’t done anything to you. That’s a racist comment." Also taking offence at the suggestion that a black rapper wouldn’t like Bob Dylan, Minaj went on to rage "When Steven 1st went on Idol he was ridiculed by his peers & fans alike. Called a sell out. So what does he do? Ridicule the next judge." She might have a point.

Nicki Minaj Accuses Steven Tyler Of Racist Remark On Twitter

Nicki Minaj Steven Tyler Mariah Carey

Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey is over, now the school kids are surrounding Minaj and Steven Tyler, chanting "Fight, fight!" over and over again, hoping to see some bloodshed before the teacher comes to break it all up.

Tyler gave an interview to MTV, which didn't sit well with Minaj, you see. "You just have to give your opinion. It wasn't hard for me, but I would imagine it's hard for some people, and they need a manager to say 'Shut the f--- up, and just give them your opinion,'" Tyler said. "These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere and they're in New York City, they're scared to death; you're not going to get the best [out of them]. ... If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying." Minaj is not happy, not at all, and she took to Twitter to air her grievances at what she believes to be a racist comment. "Steven Tyler said I would have sent Bob Dylan to a cornfield??? Steven, you haven't seen me judge one single solitary contestant yet," she wrote. "I understand you really wanted to keep your job but take that up with the producers. I haven't done anything to you. That's a racist comment. You assume that I wouldn't have liked Bob Dylan??? why? black? rapper? what? go f--k yourself and worry about yourself babe."

She didn't stop there, and, clearly incensed, wrote, "LOL lets make him a shirt that says "No Coloreds Allowed" then escort him down 2 Barbara Walters so he can tell how he was threatened w/guns. When Steven 1st went on Idol he was ridiculed by his peers & fans alike. Called a sell out. So what does he do? Ridicule the next judge." Neither Tyler or Fox have responded to the tweets or claims made, E! reports.

Out Now: US Album Releases (Nov 6) Aerosmith, Ne-Yo, Skyfall OST, Third Day

OK, so the majority of the US public have just one race on their minds today and that’s the US Presidential race. But once that’s been decided in a few hours, all thoughts will surely be turning to the all-important albums chart race… surely? Can any of this week’s releases threaten Taylor Swift’s position at the top or will she get a second term at number one?

Aerosmith have returned, after an 11-year hiatus from writing any new material. Time appears to have stood still on Aerosmith-land in those eleven years and Music From Another Dimension is pretty much as you would expect an Aerosmith album to sound. Of course, Steven Tyler’s presence on American Idol has brought the attention of Aerosmith back to a new generation of fans, so much of this material may well even sound fresh to them.

Bruce Springsteen Among The Stars Shining At Hurricane Sandy Benefit

Bruce Springsteen Jon Bon Jovi Billy Joel Mary J Blige Steven Tyler Christina Aguilera

The stars came out to raise money for the reconstruction of areas devastated by Hurricane Sandy last week, and fewer seemed more committed to the cause than Bruce Springsteen, a New Jersey native who saw his home neighbourhood devastated in the storms.

Springsteen was among a host of New Jersey locals including Jon Bon Jovi and the E Street Band, whilst Long Islander Billy Joel, Bronx native Mary J. Blige, Bostonian Steven Tyler and Staten Island’s Christina Aguilera also lent a hand for the hour long televised show titled ‘Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together’. It was Springsteen who took the day though, closing the showing and singing with closed eyes and gritted teeth. "God bless New York and God bless the Jersey Shore” he called out at the end of his short performance, with it looking like he’d could’ve gone on for many many more songs if the network had allowed him to.

Other highlights of the event saw Jon Bon Jovi perform a solemn, tributary ‘Prayer’ to his home town. Many of the performances were punctuated with video segments, and footage of the wreckage that came from the storm. It has to be said, though, that despite the undoubted cost of damages, the east coast of the US got off lightly compared to the Caribbean, where 69 people lost their lives.

America is still rocked by the devastating aftermath of hurricane Sandy, and the thought that 'never would a disaster like this happen to me' seemed to resonate on the faces at the Sandy Benefit Concert on Friday (Nov. 2).

The star power drawn in was impressive, with such entertainers as Bruce Springsteen, Danny Devito and Mary J Blige each pledging their time to the good cause.

Opening the night's proceedings was Staten Island-born Christina Aguilera, who kicked things off with a powerful and stripped down rendition of her song 'Beautiful'. Relying solely on her vocals, Xtina packed a heft punch that delivered all the way home. Next up to perform was New Jersey's Jon Bon Jovi who first gave a shout-out to his hometown of Sayerville, N.J., before re-appropriating his hair-rock hit 'Livin’ On A Prayer' to suit the sombre mood in the studio.

Steven Tyler turns up for The Late Show

If you believe the rumours, things haven't been going smoothly in the Aerosmith camp of late, with reports suggesting that the admittedly often turbulent rock band might be splitting up. Well, the relaxed demeanour of front man Steven Tyler as he turned up for David Letterman's Late Show suggested that such aspersions may be far fetched. Tyler looked in good spirits has he arrived in flares, a purple shirt and a jacket to speak to the chat show host along with the rest of his band.
