The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been surfing the celebrity world for some time now with famous faces all over the world taking the plunge in order to draw attention to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations to its research. The latest stars to succumb to the cold water are Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin, fashion designer Stella McCartney and supermodel Kate Moss, with the former two joining up together to complete their nomination.

Martin and McCartney were both nominated by the singer’s estranged wife, Gwyneth Paltrow and did not seem too keen to accept their selection at first.

Stella Mccartney has been awarded an OBE, for the work that she did designing the Olympic kit for Team GB at last year’s Olympics, held in London. As she collected her award, she took a moment to notice that The Queen was looking “chic,” though she did comment that she should have been wearing one of her own creations. “She looks very chic I thought, beautiful,” Stella said, according to Sky News. She then added, jokingly: "It should have been Stella McCartney of course - I slipped her a card."

Discussing the achievement of being awarded an OBE, McCartney said “I feel amazing. I told the Queen I designed the kit for her nation. It's pretty high up there and marks an incredible moment in your life.” Joining McCartney were some of the athletes that wore her kit last summer during the games and brought home those all-important medals. Victoria Pendleton was one of those receiving an honour. She already received her MBE in 2008 but told Sky News that she was able to relax and take it all in a little better this time around. “When I picked up an MBE in 2008 it was a bit of a whirlwind visit and I didn't quite take it all in. This time I was more excited as the Queen presented me with my honour and said 'here's another one for your collection.” She added “This is special because it's the culmination of everything I've done in sport. It's the last 10 years of my life.”

Slightly less gracious was the response from the triathlon champion Alistair Brownlee, who took the opportunity to take a dig at his brother, who won the bronze medal in the same race, saying “Picking up an MBE is such a massive honour, but what makes it just that little bit better is the fact Jonathan hasn't got one.”

While honours lists have repeatedly come under contention by those who have refused their offered accolades, being included in the list and being made a Knight, a Dame, or the like, is undoubtedly one that most find a true honour. This year's New Year's Honours List is littered with both celebrities and the 'average Joe', all of whom have improved the industries and communities that they are a part of. 

Famous highlights of this year include designer Stella Mccartney, illustrator Quentin Blake and actor Ewan McGregor. Stella McCartney's OBE is largely due to her work with the Olympics, which have been a central pivot around which this year's list has revolved. She kitted out the teams in their uniforms in a collaboration with Adidas. Of course, her catalogue of work prior to the Olympics was the reason she was chosen for the biggest sporting event to hit the UK in decades, so this year she also was awarded Designer of the Year and Brand of the Year at the British Fashion awards.

Quentin Blake, the much loved illustrator for Roald Dahl's books, has also been awarded CBE. His distinctive and sketchy style has been the benchmark for many representations of Dahl's characters since their publication. He has also published many of his own books, illustrated the BBC's 'Jackanory', plus he has pledged his entire archive to the House of Illustration which will open in 2014, reports the BBC. He said of the knighthood, that it's "quite a nice 80th birthday present". One that is both well deserved and overdue.

Sophie Dahl and Jamie Cullum are adding to their brood! The Mirror have pictured Sophie and Jamie together at the Harper’s Bazaar’s Women of the Year awards bash at Claridge’s in London. Sophie was sporting not only a beautifully patterned green, blue and black dress but was also sporting a bit of a baby bump, too. The actress and TV cook confirmed that she and jazz singer Jamie are indeed awaiting a new arrival. They already have a daughter, Lyra, who was born in March 2011.

The couple attended the glamorous awards ceremony, which also boasted guests such as Erin O’Connor and Yasmin Le Bon, with whom Sophie is already familiar, from her modelling days. The former X Files star Gillian Anderson was also in attendance, as was Rosamund Pike and Daisy Lowe.

Amongst the winners at the Woman of the Year awards were Team GB Olympics athletes Jessica Ennis, Victoria Pendleton and Ellie Simmonds, who were all awarded a British Ambassador of the Year prize. Emily Blunt, Marion Cotillard and Stella Mccartney were all also awarded prizes during the star-studded ceremony. It’s been a successful week for Jessica Ennis, in particular, who was crowned the Ultimate Olympian at the Cosmopolitan’s own awards the nigt before, at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Emily Blunt at the Bazaar Women Of The Year Awards

There was an Olympic feel on the red carpet of the Harper's Bazaar Women Of The Year Awards (not to be confused with the Bizarre Women Of The Year Awards, which we imagine would be quite a different ceremony) but one actress managed to fend them all off in the glamour stakes, with Emily Blunt looking delightful in an Alexander McQueen orange gown with sparkly neckline. It was a wonderful outfit for the actress to wear as she scooped the British actor of the year award at the event held at Claridge's Hotel in London.

Jessie J has sacked her stylist and shaken off her ‘cartoon’ look of days gone by. The ‘Do It Like A Dude’ singer has revealed, in an interview with Elle magazine, that she intentionally dressed a little outlandishly as she launched her career so that people would take notice of her, but now she is embracing herself “as a woman… and being a bit more feminine.” Jessie broke onto the pop scene with the ‘Do It Like A Dude’ video, which had her looking pretty freaky, with spikes on her lips and heavy dark eye make-up.

Now that she’s caught everyone’s attention, both with her music and with her appearance as a judge on the TV singing contest The Voice, she can afford to tone things down a little. That’s exactly what she’s done for her Elle photo-shoot and in a video interview on the magazine’s website, she reveals “I definitely am more feminine and I’ve softened my look a lot. I’m just having fun with my style, and like, exploring stuff as I’ve got more confident as a young woman.” The singer is also preparing to design a new fashion range with Stella Mccartney.

Jessie’s only 24 so has plenty of time to experiment with her image and it sounds as though she’s preparing to do just that: “It’s not like I want every song I do to sound the same, so why would I dress the same every day, or have the same hair all the time, it gets boring you know? You always want to make sure that you’re exploring yourself and discovering different layers of your personality and your look. I think it’s fun.’”
