Simon Pegg at the Star Wars Premiere

The big event this week was the world premiere of Star Trek Into Darkness in London, attended by the entire cast, director J.J. Abrams, the writers, producers and any celebrity in shouting distance of Leicester Square. The film is gaining buzz among critics who have already seen it in advance of its UK release next week. It opens in America on May 17th.

This week's big release in America is Iron Man 3, which has already made more than $300 million worldwide. In the UK, there's an eclectic mix of new releases in cinemas, from the dark action of Dead Man Down, starring Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace, to the wacky comical antics of Pedro Almodovar's I'm So Excited, which features cameos from his regulars Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz.

Matthew McConaughey at the premiere of Mud

Matthew Mcconaughey and current tabloid headliner Reese Witherspoon braved the paparazzi for the premiere of their film Mud at new York's Museum of Modern Art. Reese looked terrific in a sexy little black number, while Matthew went all out in a flashy red and blue plaid suit. They're joined on the red carpet by costar Sarah Paulson and writer-director Jeff Nichols. The film is out now in the US and opens next week in the UK.

Also in New York, the Tribeca Film Festival continues with a series of starry premieres. Sam Rockwell, Justin Long and Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage walked the red carpet with their two heavily pregnant costars Evan Rachel Wood and Busy Phillips to promote their new romantic-comedy A Case of You. And there seemed to be something in the water, as director Kat Coiro also showed off her baby bump.

The crowd-pleasing French period comedy Populaire debuted a new teaser trailer this week. It's about a hapless secretary (The Child's Deborah Francois) who has a messy romance with her boss (Heartbreaker's Romain Duris) as she rises through the ranks of championship typists. The film costars The Artist's Berenice Bejo and has plenty of Mad Men style with a snappy, humorous flair. It opens this month in the US and UK.

Vin Diesel in Fast & Furious 6

And finally, we also had a more detailed new trailer for Fast & Furious 6, in which Vin Diesel and Paul Walker team up with former nemesis Dwayne Johnson for a European adventure. Cast members from the previous films are also on board, including the presumed-dead Michelle Rodriguez, who is clearly back with a vengeance. Luke Evans is the villain this time. The movie opens later this month and looks like it features especially outrageous stunt work.
