You can't not still love the Spice Girls.
A clip has emerged this week featuring the Spice Girls on the set of a Polaroid commercial they did in the 90s, and expressing the sentiment they are best known for with great effect: that is, Girl Power. Here they stand up to some sexist directors when asked to sex up their school uniform costumes.
Spice Girls prove just how powerful Girl Power really is
The best thing about the Spice Girls apart from the infectious chemistry, the movie, the outfits and the tunes was the fact that they upheld everything they believed in. A throwback 'backstage' video from their time on a Polaroid commercial in 1997, where they were dressed in school uniform, sees Mel B, Mel C, Geri Horner (than Halliwell) and Victoria Beckham (then Adams) arguing about being told to flash some flesh for the shoot.
Melanie C and Victoria Beckham are the two hold-outs on a full Spice Girls reunion next year.

The 42 year old singer, whose full name is Melanie Chisholm, told BBC News: “I describe the Spice Girls as a jigsaw puzzle. If there's a piece missing, it's not the full picture, we weren't just a band with interchangeable parts.”

Scary Spice jokingly hit out at Mel C and Victoria Beckham for deciding not to celebrate the Spice Girls 20th anniversary.
Want to know why the Spice Girls reunion will only feature three members? Well Mel B has a pretty straightforward answer for you. Mel will be reuniting with Geri Horner and Emma Bunton soon to celebrate the group’s 20th anniversary, but as for the other two, they're just ‘bitches’ according to Scary Spice.
Mel B has joked that Mel C and Victoria are ‘bitches’ for not doing the Spice Girls reunion
Speaking on 'The Late Late Show', Mel B was asked by host James Corden why the reunion would only feature three Spice Girls. "The other two bitches didn't want to do it," Mel joked, before setting the record straight.

Appearing on 'This Morning', Bunton said that Victoria is in favour of a reunion without her - and that she might even change her mind about getting involved.
The pop star turned radio presenter was interviewed on ‘This Morning’ on Wednesday (August 24th), and said that she recently spoke to the fashion designer at her husband David’s 40th birthday party. Although she has remained insistent that she’s focussing on her new career, Bunton said that Victoria is prone to changing her mind and may even decide to come on board after all.

Mel Coloma, the nearly-Spice Girl who lost her place in the group to Victoria Beckham, has appeared on ‘This Morning’ and revealed she still hasn't given up on fame. Coloma was chosen for the group in 1994 back when they were called Touch, but says she eventually got the axe because her voice was “too strong”.
Victoria Beckham replaced Mel Coloma in the group that would become the Spice Girls
Speaking to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, Coloma said: “I'm still hopeful I will make it. I'll always keep singing.” The 41-year-old said she got her place in the group after answering an advert in The Stage.

Have the Spice Girls reformed as a trio called GEM?
There's been talks of a Spice Girls reunion going around for a few months now, and now it seems something's finally happening. However, you can probably say goodbye to Posh and Sporty for good because the group have allegedly re-named themselves GEM (for Geri, Emma and Mel B).
Are the Spice Girls now just GEM?
To coincide with the 20th anniversary of the release of their smash hit debut 'Wannabe', the Spice Girls have announced that some of them - Emma Bunton, Geri Horner and Melanie Brown - will be reuniting, perhaps under the new moniker GEM. They launched a video teasing that they may be preparing for that big London Hyde Park in July 2017 that appeared in headlines this week, but they can't tell us anything about it yet.

A report in The Sun suggests that a huge central London gig is in the pipeline for July 2017, to mark the 21st anniversary of the Spice Girls' first single 'Wannabe'.
Despite a number of setbacks and the fact that only three of their five members are taking part, the Spice Girls are reportedly planning a massive reunion in gig in London’s Hyde Park for July 2017.
The Sun reported on Wednesday evening (July 6th) that Melanie Brown, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton are all on board with the idea to celebrate the 21st anniversary of their 1996 debut single ‘Wannabe’. The three apparently met at Horner’s home last week to discuss the idea
Victoria Beckham and Melanie Chisholm are not said to be involved with the plans – however, they might now reconsider. Both have been reluctant to put their names to a prospective 20th anniversary reunion for the last year or so, and with plans receiving a number of setbacks recently, it looks as if any idea that now comes to fruition will have to be in order to celebrate a 21st anniversary instead.

The #WhatIReallyReallyWant campaign highlights the issues still faced by women around the world today.
This week marks exactly 20 years since the Spice Girls burst on to the UK music scene with ‘Wannabe’. It’s hard to believe that its been so long since we first saw Mel B, Geri, Mel C, Emma and Victoria and heard the term ‘Girl Power’, but what’s harder to stomach is that two decades later women are still fighting for equality around the world.
To mark the 20th anniversary of the birth of ‘Girl Power’, the video for ‘Wannabe’ has been remade to highlight gender inequality issues faced by women across the globe. Launched by Project Everyone, the #WhatIReallyReallyWant campaign addresses the issues still faced by women today, including education, child marriage, pay inequality and violence.
Talks are said to have broken down again and now the much anticipated reunion is not happening.
The Spice Girls reunion is said to be off again, after final talks to get Mel C on board broke down this week. According to The Mirror, those already on board, Mel B, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton had even offered to wait a year for Mel C, but the former Sporty Spice is just not interested.
The Spice Girls reunion now looks unlikely.
A source told the newspaper: “Mel C has been telling friends it’s not happening – not for the anniversary and not next year. She’s not interested in revisiting the band, and neither is Victoria. Their decision has made it impossible for the other three to go ahead with plans to tour again.”

The rumoured Spice Girls reunion could be getting some big help from Simon Cowell.
Back in the mid-nineties pop mogul Simon Cowell made what he once called the ‘biggest mistake’ of his career, he didn't sign the Spice Girls. But according to reports, Cowell is now attempting to right the old wrong, by trying to sign the girls for their rumoured reunion tour.
Is Simon Cowell trying to sign a Spice Girls reunion?
The Sun reports that Cowell made an offer to Mel B last week, when he invited her to be a guest judge on the ‘X Factor’. Mel B has always been vocal about wanting to commemorate the band’s 20th anniversary and is said to be one of the three who has said yes to a tour, along with Emma Bunton and Geri Horner.
The girls are rumoured to be hitting the road for their 20th anniversary, but there may be two new faces.
As rumours of the Spice Girls' 20th reunion tour continue, it is now being reported that the three members of the group to have said yes to the tour, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner and Mel B, are holding auditions to find replacements for Victoria Beckham and Mel C.
Are Emma, Mel B and Geri looking to replace Mel C and Victoria?
Victoria and Mel C are said to have declined the chance to reunite with their former bandmates, but the other three are keen to go ahead with their 20th anniversary plans. An unnamed source told Life & Style Magazine: “The girls are going to be making a formal announcement about tryouts for their spots in the next few weeks.”
Adele treated fans to an impromptu snippet of ‘Spice Up Your Life’ during a recent concert.
Adele has never made a secret of her love for the the Spice Girls and at a recent concert in Amsterdam the singer showed her admiration by free-styling part of the group’s 1997 hit ‘Spice Up Your Life’. Adele’s homage to the band even caught the attention of the girls themselves and left Scary Spice Mel B uncharacteristically speechless.

Speaking on Monday (June 6), during a a conference call promoting ‘America's Got Talent’ Mel B said: "I'm very kind of flattered. I think all of us are. It's great. It leaves me speechless a little bit. I love Adele."

Beckham had said her microphone was turned off during her days in the girl group.
Mel B has denied former bandmate Victoria Beckham’s recent claim that her microphone was switched off during Spice Girls concerts. Beckham, who wasn't known for her vocal skills, had previously said that her mic used to be muted during live performances, but Mel B has said that’s simply not true.
Mel B has denied that Victoria Beckham’s microphone used to be muted.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Mel B said: “"She wishes it was turned off! We sung live, and we wrote and recorded all our music together live and we performed it live. It wasn't turned down. Not that I know of. Maybe she secretly asked for that -- I don't know about that.”
17 demos dating from sessions in 2003 for a scrapped 'hip hop album' with Damon Dash, called 'Come Together', surfaced online this week.
We’ve just checked, and no, it isn’t April 1st. Apparently, once upon a time and not in a galaxy far, far away, there was such a thing as a Victoria Beckham hip-hop album.
Just as it sounds on the face of it, the project is not something that anybody involved with it is particularly pleased to remember, but now fans can get the hear what became of the sessions when 17 unreleased demo tracks were leaked online earlier this week, which can now be found on YouTube and SoundCloud, according to Digital Spy.

Potentially amazing news arrived this week for Spice Girls fans as a picture emerged of the three remaining members in the studio for a reported “secret recording session”.
Just hours after appearing on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ to confirm that the iconic group was still in talks for that rumoured 20th anniversary reunion, Mel B posted a snap on Instagram of herself with Geri Horner and Emma Bunton – the three members still keen on such a project – at London’s Play Deep Studios on Wednesday afternoon (May 11th), captioning it: “And I say oohhhh LALA”.

The former Spice Girl has expressed an interest in returning to 'The X Factor' after Rita Ora's departure from the show.
The former Spice Girl, 40, was a judge on the ITV singing competition for just one season back in 2014, but in the wake of massive changes to the show over the last few months that have seen Ora, Nick Grimshaw and long-time judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini all depart as well as co-hosts Caroline Flack and Olly Murs, many are tipping her for a return.
“I’d always love to be part of ‘The X Factor’, it was a great show,” she said during her appearance on ‘Lorraine’ on Wednesday morning (May 11th). “Is there a space? This happens every year, it’s always up in the air.”

Never particularly renowned for her singing abilities - see her ill-fated solo career - Posh Spice admitted producers often used to turn her mic off for Spice Girls shows.
According to a report in The Sun, the pop star-turned-fashion designer used to mime along to the group’s hit songs on stage while Emma Bunton, Mel C, Mel B and Geri Halliwell actually sang.
Speaking at the National Portrait Gallery on Thursday night (May 5th) for the Vogue 100 exhibition, Victoria told the evening’s host Claudia Winkleman: “They used to turn it off and just let the others sing. I got the last laugh - and now my mic is well and truly on, finally.”
Plans for the girl group to reunite for their 20th anniversary are said to now be hanging by a thread.

It's doubtful that we'll get to see Posh Spice in the Spice Girls again.
It's looking less and less likely that Victoria Beckham is going to change her mind about this Spice Girls 20th anniversary reunion thing, and now it's just come out that the band was never where she felt at home anyway. It makes sense, given how she became such a success in the fashion industry instead.
Victoria Beckham wasn't comfortable in the Spice Girls
The former manager for the Spice Girls, Simon Fuller, who signed the band in 1995, revealed at the Business Innovation Awards in Los Angeles recently that the popstar turned fashion icon was never passionate about music, and even confessed that he was the one who encouraged her to embark on a career as a designer.
They're not all the best of friends.
Is this Spice Girls 20th anniversary reunion happening or not? That's what fans want to know as the summer quickly approaches. And it seems while Emma Bunton is thrilled at the idea, it's still up in the air whether they'll be able to bring Victoria Beckham on board.
Will the Spice Girls get together again?
No doubt about it, the Spice Girls marked a milestone in British pop as the first modern girlband and a paragon of feminism, individuality and patriotism. And so in a world where we struggle to let go of the past, the idea of missing out on a 20th anniversary reunion for such an important group is a crushing disappointment for a lot of people.

During her ride along with James Corden, Adele belted out the Spice Girls and gave a word perfect rendition of Nicki Minaj’s ‘Monster’ rap.
James Corden’s ‘Carpool Karaoke’ segment from the ‘Late Late Show’ never fails to disappoint, but this week he truly brought out the big guns when he was joined by Adele for an in-car sing-a-long. While Adele belted out some of her own classic hits, what was even more impressive was how good she proved to be at rapping and showing her girl power.
During the journey Adele spoke about being a huge Spice Girls fan back in the day (weren’t we all), adding, ‘It was a huge moment in my life when they came out. It was girl power, and it was these five ordinary girls who did so well and got out.”
Geri Horner said that "it'll just be the four of us", with Beckham opting to concentrate on her fashion career.
Speaking on Chris Evans’ BBC Radio 2 breakfast show on Thursday (January 14th), Geri Horner (aka Ginger Spice) said that while there wasn’t anything “definite or concrete”, confirmed that “it’ll just be the four us” and “when it’s definite we’ll announce it together”.

The girls were set to reunite as a foursome, but Beckham could be ready to make it five for some of the rumoured anniversary shows.
Victoria Beckham could be about to join her fellow Spice Girls for some of their rumoured reunion dates later this year. Posh, who had been thought to be missing out on the reunion shows, is reported to be willing to join the rest of the band, as long as it doesn't negatively impact on her family.
Is Victoria Beckham ready to rejoin the Spice Girls?
A source close to the fashion designer told Closer magazine: “There are still lots of details to sort out, but Victoria’s said she’ll perform with the girls. However she stressed she needed to focus on David and the kids this year after a stressful 2015 of trying to juggle work and family life, so committing to all the dates would be too much."
The 90's girl group were set to reunite in 2016 for a 20th anniversary tour.
After reuniting in 2012 for London’s Olympic Games, the Spice Girls were set to come together again in 2016 for a tour to mark their 20th anniversary. But while Victoria Beckham was always going to sit the tour out, talks are now said to be in ‘crisis’, with Mel C refusing to perform as a foursome.
According to The Sun newspaper, Mel C, aka Sporty Spice, will only sign on the dotted line "if all the cogs are in place"."This means good management, good tour promoters and good sponsorship to maximise revenue,” a source said.
Would Eva Longoria make the perfect fifth Spice Girl?
The Spice Girls are back together! Ok, that was misleading. By “are” I mean “were” and by “together” I mean “in the same room, taking pictures for a couple of hours”. Also, there were only four of them. But other than that...
Posh, Sporty, Baby and Ginger reunited at David Beckham’s glamorous birthday party on Saturday, in Marrakech, Morocco. It was the presence of Geri Halliwell, Melanie Chisholm and Emma Bunton that really spiced up the party, though.
Oh dear. Oh dear. Oh dear.
Oh, bless Geri Halliwell. The former Spice Girl was tasked with performing her new single Half of Me during an appearance on Australian sports programme The Footy Show this week, though things didn't really go to plan.
"How often to do we have an international superstar on the stage?" said one of the Footy Show's presenters before introducing Geri, "She's one of our favourite red-heads, and don't forget she's a member of the Australia's Got Talent show!"
The 41-year-old is releasing her new song down-under and, in fairness, agreed to sing a live rendition on the NRL show in front of an arena full of fans. Unfortunately for Halliwell, she regularly went out of tune and the dancing was frankly ridiculous.

George Michael is working on a new album, according to his Twitter feed today (January 25, 2013). The pop star, who made it big in the ‘80s as part of Wham! and went on to have a successful solo career with songs such as ‘Careless Whisper’ and ‘Faith,’ has been talking about the possibility of a new album for some months, but has now confirmed that the recording process is underway, with a tweet that read “Hi everyone, hope you are all well, just to let you know I've been back in the studio a few weeks now, working on the new record....”
After suffering a serious bout of pneumonia, which left him fighting for his life, George Michael managed to stage a remarkable comeback, which culminated in him performing at last year’s London 2012 Olympics ceremony. However, the response to his performance there was probably not what George expected. Dressed in black leather and reflective shades, the 49 year old started off well, with a performance of his old classic, ‘Freedom 90,’ which fit in well with the nostalgic feel of the event, which also saw the likes of The Spice Girls and The Who perform. Everything went wrong for George Michael, though, when he used the opportunity to promote his new single, which was obviously not such a popular choice for the crowd, who were getting into the sing-along nature of the event.
Suddenly, a nation turned on George. No sooner were we praising his physical recovery than we were calling for him to be banished from the world of pop, for his commercial faux pas. So, George, you might be busy recording a new album, but some of us are still sulking over the Olympics, you know.
The Spice Girls' renaissance - which began with a performance at the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony - has continued with the musical, Viva Forever! Of course, no musical premiere is complete without an after party, but did four of The Spice Girls give Posh Spice the cold shoulder?
"Victoria sat on her own table away from the rest of the girls. They didn't speak the whole time she was there," a source told Metro. "She came out of the loo singing Spice Girls songs to Romeo who went in after her,' said another source, "She was giggling with her friends while waiting for him to finish," they continued. "When the DJ played some Spice Girls hits, Posh was nowhere to be seen. Geri, Emma, Mel B and Mel C all got up to dance and tried to remember the moves to Spice Up Your Life, they didn't seem to care, or notice, Victoria was missing."
Mrs Beckham was widely criticised for her role in The Spice girls. People said she couldn't sing, dance or act, but that's really an accusation you could level at most modern pop starts, let alone the rest of the band; a band, which, according to Ginger Spice, isn't done yet. Geri told Heat magazine: "This is a great excuse for us all to have a party tonight! The musical was incredible, we all got really emotional watching it. I just want to see it again now. It was brilliant, it was emotional, funny, exciting, empowering... it was girl power!," adding, "we're going to be around for a long time. You haven't seen the last of us."
It's all Robbie Williams; as well as announcing his European stadium tour, with his pop lacky Ollie Murs picking up the support slack, he's further endorsed teen-icons One Direction, saying they could be as big as British giants, The Spice Girls, The Metro reports.
"You know, they're quite a power together, very much in the same way the Spice Girls were. The Spice Girls went and took on the world and won and I think the 1D boys have got a similar sort of chemistry," said Williams at The Soho Hotel, London while announcing his tour. "They're all good- looking lads, they're all great singers, and as a five they're a great power." Perhaps Robbie's indulging in youth, viewing 1D as a kind of modern Take That, as he was a young lad when he made it. So how is old(er) age treating the Angels singer as he hits 40? "I'm buzzing (for this tour)," he explains, "it's time to put my foot down and go 'This is what I do'. Pop stars cease to be pop stars at 40 and start being old people singing, don't they? I want to go and seal my place in pop history."
And talking about his recent night out with ladies' man Harry Styles, Robbie said: 'I don't think Harry needs any tips from me about women. He's a magnet like I've never seen before. I wasn't him when I was 18, that didn't happen to me. He's been tarred with the lucky stick hasn't he? He seems to be having a whale of a time.'
How many Rihannas does it take to change a light bulb? Probably just one, but the question we really want to know the answer to is how much it will cost
Most of us were under the impression that switching on a light required little more than mobility and common sense, in fact I think most of us do it for free tens, if not hundreds of times a day. However, London's Stratford Westfield Centre disagree and are considering forking out £5m to ensure the job is done right. They have asked Rihanna to come to turn on their Christmas lights, and as a woman completely used to the spotlight, she'll certainly not be a phased by a few festive ones.
20,000 fans are expected to turn up to a mini-concert that she'll be obliged to give, should she accept the job and hefty pay check. Rihanna also switched on the Christmas lights at the Shepherds Bush Westfield Centre a couple of years ago. One source told the Sun: “Rihanna’s thrilled she has been asked again... She knows it’s a big deal and is totally up for it — if it fits in with her schedule.”

Spice Girls star Geri Halliwell is set to make a rare live solo performance in order to raise cash for a cancer charity. The singer is due to make an long overdue return to music with an upcoming fourth album, which is scheduled for release later this year. However, this will mark the first time that she's to the stage on her own since her debut tour in 2005 was axed due to poor ticket sales. Halliwell joined the rest of the Spice Girls to perform a brief snippet during the Olympic Games closing ceremony, and will be hoping that her return to the spotlight there will buoy interest in the new date. The singer's planning to put in a solo performance next month at an event in aid of Breast Cancer Care, ahead of a cameo in a West End musical.
