Iron Man 3 director Shane Black has just lined up his next film, with the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director signed up to direct Doc Savage. The film is a joint effort between Sony Pictures and Black, who is co-writing as well as directing the film, and is based on the 1970's pulp movie hero of the same name.

Black has been attached to the project for some time now and first started work on the screenplay in 2009, however the project took a back seat when he was given the offer to direct Iron Man 3. Now that the third instalment of the adventures of Tony Stark is in cinemas, Black can get back to his original plans and a less conventional hero.

Black will be hoping that his next project manages to pull in the same amount at the box office that his most current movie has, with Iron Man 3 well on its way to reaching $1 billion in the international movie market. However, the 1975 campy adventures of Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze might not be as much of an audience draw as the lavishness of Ironman and Tony Stark. The hero is originally based on the pulp comic series of the 1930's and 40's.

Despite only making his directing debut in 2005 with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Black is by no means a newcomer to the action movie scene, having penned the Lethal Weapon series, The Last Boy Scout and The Long Kiss Goodnight to name a few. No release date for Doc Savage has been set yet.
